The Diplomat: North Korea Is Mobilizing for War
Kim Jong-un has rejected an apology from Seoul and ordered his army onto war footing.
Today, North Korea’s leader Kim Jong-un announced a “quasi-state of war” after convening an emergency meeting of the country’s powerful Central Military Commission, ordering his army to be ready for military operations beginning at 5 pm local time today.
“Kim Jong-un issued an order of the supreme commander of the Korean People’s Army (KPA) that the front-line large combined units of the KPA should enter a wartime state to be fully battle ready to launch surprise operations,” according to Korea Central News Agency.
Pyongyang also issued an ultimatum to Seoul to remove propaganda loudspeakers that South Korea has installed in the demilitarized zone (DMZ), broadcasting outside news to North Koreans but also criticizing Kim Jong-un, by 5 pm local time tomorrow.
Update: Two Koreas to Continue Talks on Sunday -- WSJ
WNU Editor: In the past South Korea went out of their way to placate North Korea when tensions started to boil. Today .... it looks like South Korea is no longer interested in backing down, and will react with deadly force when faced with North Korean aggression.

WNU,
I have heard that the North Korean army as a whole does not have a whole lot of ammunition to sustain operations.
That said I have also heard they have enough (artillery) tubes that they could flatten Seoul in the opening rounds.
North Korea has squandered a boatload of human capital, but never quite enough to put a fork in the monstrosity that is the communist cum 100 family oligarchy that is the north Korean police and terror state.
If we cant wait for it to dies of it's own evil excesses and if it presents perennial threat and helps other evil nations advance their ambitions, I think we should have plans at least to put this oligarchy out of the world's collective misery. Of course such plans on the book makes for great propaganda if released, but they charge us the same whether we do or we don't At least we have plans we are prepared.
I have no doubt there are plans to react and perhaps plans if North Korea implodes. I don't think we have plans to decapitate the oligarchy no matter if they murder 10%, 20%, 30% of their population and are continually assisting the arming and war tech of other bad nations. The biggest bugaboo /fear is China and how they would react. This is a wholly justified fear due to their capabilities and track record. Yet should we not countenance it? after all China has played North Korea like Pakistan plays the Taliban off against the U.S.
Just, because China fears a North Korean implosion and maybe fears it in other ways, does not absolve their complicity in propping it up and sheltering it from the justified wrath of other nations knowing what North Korea will do with that security, namely bedevil others not China.
We also have an ingrained cowardice and false morality for lack of a better descriptions that planning preemptive strikes against evil nations is somehow immoral. In the real world who willing takes the 1st punch in a confrontation. A person might let themselves get tagged in order to bolster their position socially and further justify their retaliation. But they also calculated that they can react and make the blow a glancing one or calculate that they can take it 1 body blow (depending on the opponent and whether the blow fully hits). A 90 # weakling could take down a body builder if he hits him in the carotid with enough force.
This insistence that we hold back and do nothing when there have been so many provocations, aggression and loss of security is retarded. It is immoral.
Personally, I would like to see Fat leader retired to a luxury estate in the south Pacific, if it would resolve the situation and we would see no more famines, trading nuke and missile tech with Iran, running drugs to Japan, etc.
Barring that I am good with a small tactical nuke taking out Fat leader in his home and if their is collateral damage of his extended family, well they should have done something other than to say we are on top.
and where do you think they get ammuntion china thats where running out ammo ha
Punctuation is your friend.
There is a lot to fear beyond the "fat leader", as one gentleman here appropriately calls him. What will the masses of Norks do if the fat leader is killed? What if it kicks off a zeal of war that sees every artillery piece, every rocket, every tank every AK moving south, even absent of orders from the top, but with tremendous warrant for ferocity and vengeance?
I just hope there is a lingering mass dissent, and that sometime soon a sensible general will launch a successful coup. Once real food starts flowing North and into the camps I think there will be nothing left to fight over.

I agree. Later there might be employment discrimination. But sandwiched between China, Japan and Russia South Korea had better do a good job of integration although they will have it tougher than Germany in the 1990s.
I think the oligarchy won't know what to do and there will be 3 or 4 factions. Some will want to look to the South and some to China for aid.
With as many illegals crossing into China, I think the NORSK know what kind of police state they live in. They must have some form of samizdat. I think they will try to see which faction wins before sticking the necks out or make good any escape over a border.
I think in the absence of orders from the state and the presence of food aid, most North Koreans will admit they lived in fear their entire lives and will be interested in not living in fear. But the leadership would have to be taken out quickly before the suicide orders came. Fighting would be suicide.
