Defense News: US Senator Backs B-1 Bombers for Israel

In Jerusalem, Says Aid Hikes “Eminently Reasonable"

TEL AVIV, Israel — Regardless of how Congress votes on the controversial Iranian nuclear deal, Sen. Tom Cotton said most members are committed to significantly strengthening Israeli security, including providing billions of dollars in additional annual aid and B-1 bunker busting bombers.

In an interview here Wednesday, the junior senator from Arkansas, a member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence and chairman of the Armed Services Air Land Power subcommittee, said he discussed with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon what Israel will need to preserve its so-called qualitative military edge (QME), particularly in light of what he insists are the added dangers stemming from the deal struck between Iran and world powers.

WNU Editor: If the U.S. is going to ship the 30,000-pound massive ordnance penetrator bunker-busting weapon to Israel .... Israel will need to have the means to deliver these bombs. Reason .... the Israeli F-15 can carry only up to 23,000 lbs.

I would assume Israel has modified the F-15 to carry these bombs or has acquired or will acquire some other way to deliver these. Regardless, as much as it pains me to say much less write, if I were Israel I would not trust the United States in pretty much anything right now.

In the case of both political parties, their judgment is not sound. This alone would make it problematic at best to trust the Americans. Add to this the fact that in the case of many Americans and the American leadership their intentions are also bad.

Hopefully new leadership for America can be found and this can be changed but for now I think Israel is smart enough not to trust the Americans or to rely on them for pretty much anything.

The S 300s are the issue here and whatever other toys the Russian (or others) sell to the Persians.

Israel seems to be finding herself more and more isolated of late. Her recently appointed representative to the UN is un likely to help mattes.

Incidentally, I wonder how many more Israeli incursions into Syrian airspace we are going to see
with the Russians in town. It looks like the party is about to be crashed.

I'm pretty sure Israel is prepared for all of this. Israel is going to be much better able to handle S-300s and any other toys than America would likely be able to. If "incursions" into Syrian airspace are needed for Israeli defense needs, I don't see Russia being able to do much to stop them.

In any event, America needs to stand with our ally Israel. Israel serves as a valuable buffer between the United States and Islamic terrorists and the nations who support them. If this buffer is lost or weakened, it becomes much harder to defend America.

As for the ambassador, I shall have to research him. Perhaps a get tough approach is needed here. Other nations need to show Israel the same type of respect and decency typically extended to others. The same applies to the United States. We need to be shown the same kind of respect other nations are afforded automatically. Perhaps diplomats and leaders who are willing to stand up for our rights in these forums may be needed as opposed to the current group who feels groveling is somehow going to work.
