Vice: Trudeau Tells Obama He's Pulling Canada Out of Bombing Campaign Against the Islamic State

Justin Trudeau, who won a sweeping majority government on Monday, will pull Canada's fighter jets out of Iraq and Syria just over a year after Ottawa began the bombing campaign.

Canada's new prime minister informed President Barack Obama of his decision over the phone on Tuesday afternoon, he told a press conference in Ottawa.

While Trudeau said that the American president understood his need to follow-through on his promise to withdraw Canada's air force from the mission, the White House nevertheless indicated on Tuesday morning that it wanted Canada to continue dropping bombs.

Still not really sure who or what we were bombing since ISIS appeared to be making gains UNTIL Putin got into the game. Now it appears all hell is breaking loose and ISIS is getting its just comeuppance! Are we the good guys or bad guys and who are we really supporting??

No offense to anyone .The Canadian government campaign against Isis is symbolic and like other nation's from Europe is use by the US to have some tipe of legitimacy over the sovereignty of Siria .there is no resolution from the UN at this time making any military intervention iligal .

You're right. No UN action, no act of US Congress, no Act of Canadian Parliament(that I know of), no NATO resolution, nothing.

It's to early to tell if Russia's air campaign is having an effect if any on ISIS. If they are targeting the cut throats as much as they are saying Canada wouldn't be needed.

All the best canucks!

James,

"Oct. 8, 2014-- The Canadian parliament has voted to authorise the country's armed forces to join US-led air strikes against Islamic State (IS) militants in Iraq. The vote allows air strikes for up to six months, but rules out the use of ground troops. Canada will provide up to six CF-18 fighter planes, as well as surveillance and refuelling aircraft and about 600 personnel.
Mar 30, 2015 -- Canadian legislators on Monday voted to back the government's plans to bomb Islamic State positions in Syria, a move that opposition parties say threatens to drag Canada into a long war. The House of Commons approved the plan 142-129. The result was never in doubt, since the ruling Conservatives have a majority in the chamber. The vote also approved the extension of Canada's six-month mission by a year to the end of March 2016."

JJ you are correct, until the united states shows serious intent countries like canada and australia are not needed, just fly around with dropping any payload.
Maybe we should cordinate with
Russia instead and get the job done.

That answers my statement as for as Canada, but beyond France I know of no other Authorization of Force laws, Resolutions, or Acts of Legislatures.

James,

The Obama admin holds that the origional AUMF against Bin Laden still applies, any where in the world.

That is an administration interpretation, and it applies to Bin Laden and AQ, not ISIS or Syria.
