Turkish Jets Shoot Down An Unidentified Drone At Its Border With Syria

Reuters: Turkey downs drone as Syria launches Aleppo offensive

Turkey shot down a drone on Friday in an incident highlighting the dangers of multiple air combat operations over Syria, where government troops and their allies backed by Russian jets have launched an offensive against rebels near Aleppo.

The army offensive south of the city, backed by Hezbollah and Iranian fighters, further expands its 10-day-old counter-attack in western Syria against insurgents battling to overthrow President Bashar al-Assad.

The army campaign has been coordinated with Russian jets, which began air strikes in support of Assad on Sept. 30, and Syria's own air force.

A U.S.-led coalition of Western and Arab forces has been flying combat missions over Syria for more than a year, while Israeli jets have also struck targets in Syria during the four-year-old civil war.

Turkey initially claimed an "aircraft".

They are playing media games.

jay .... it was a small drone. I am surprised that a jet fighter was able to pick it off.

The Turks used the term "air vehicle."

It would be a good idea for Turkey to keep quiet and stop bringing attention to herself. The noise coming out of Ankara has me wondering if the Sultan is playing with a full deck. It appears being off one's nut (or just plain stooooopid) is a prerequisite to be a leader of a NATO nation.

A hefty helping of mendacity doesn't hurt either.

While it turned out to be a small drone, ( probably an Orlon 10 or one of the regional variants), killed in an F16 "gunrun",

Initial Turkish reports were slanted to infer that it was a Russian fighter jet.

Turkey is playing media games.

Turkeys airforce is an extremley potent regional force, it is putin who should be careful!

Turkey is only a "potent" "regional" Airforce, compared to the Kurds.

The cruise missile launches by Russia, were predominantly a statement to Turkey, that Russian responses to Turkish Games would not come from Syria.

SU-35M's were deployed to Syria for a reason. their ELINT pods negate both stealth, and long range AARM's.

In close, their offsight and thrust vectoring make the merge fatal.

And, like Canada, they flap their lips at the Russians because they think the US will back them.

There's not a damn thing they can do about Russia.
