Nancy A. Youssef & Shane Harris, Daily Beast: Exclusive: Pentagon May Demote David Petraeus

The Defense Secretary is looking to put the clamp down on misbehaving generals. Pentagon insiders say Petraeus could be the next general to face the consequences.

The Pentagon is considering retroactively demoting retired Gen. David Petraeus after he admitted to giving classified information to his biographer and mistress while he was still in uniform, three people with knowledge of the matter told The Daily Beast.

The decision now rests with Secretary of Defense Ash Carter, who is said to be willing to consider overruling an earlier recommendation by the Army that Petraeus not have his rank reduced. Such a demotion could cost the storied general hundreds of thousands of dollars—and deal an additional blow to his once-pristine reputation.

WNU Editor: He should have received jail time for his crime .... others have been punished for less. But the powers that be decided that his punishment was to be financial .... no jail time. As to this demotion .... it will be appropriate. On a personal note .... I am disappointed with what has transpired with David H. Petraeus. I have been following his career when he was in Iraq at the beginning. He had a promising career and he was being groomed for the Joint Chiefs .... and maybe even into political office .... but as soon as he got his third star everything became political. This is not how you end a career, but there are still some who want to know on what he is thinking with the current wars, specifically Afghanistan .... Petraeus calls for more air strikes in Afghanistan (USA Today).

There is a statute of limitations. As far as I know it is 5 years.

There are things I admire about Petraeus and there are things I do not.

Either pull the trigger or let him go.

For that they should go after Anthony Shaffer. He wrote about breaking the UCMJ in Operation Darkheart, but he has a valid point.

I have heard disturbing things about the parties hosted by the socialite that turned Petraeus in. I do not know if they are true, but they need to be investigated. They were reported by military corruption.com for whatever they are worth.

Well you are correct about Petraeus and jail time, but actually he became "political" much earlier, starting at least with his WaPo editorial Fall of 2014 regarding his "success" as a LtGen training Iraqi troops.
Sep 2004: LtGen Petreaus, in the WaPo: “Six battalions of the Iraqi regular army and the Iraqi Intervention Force are now conducting operations. . .Within the next 60 days, six more regular army and six additional Intervention Force battalions will become operational. . . Nine more regular army battalions will complete training in January”

Thus Petraeus deflected Kerry's blows against Bush regarding poor execution of the Iraq war (which Kerry favored).

So the public cannot know what we were told in the military in 2006.
