Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi announced that China is going to construct a couple of nuclear power plants in southeastern Iran, and the issue will be discussed in an upcoming visit by the Chinese president to Tehran.

TEHRAN (FNA)- Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi announced that the country will start building two new nuclear power plants in the near future.
"Construction of two 1000-MW power plants will start soon," Salehi told reporters in Tehran on Tuesday.
"We will build two other small power plants too in cooperation with China," he added.
Asked about cooperation with different countries to develop Iran's nuclear industry after implementation of the July nuclear agreement, Salehi said, "Certain European and Asian states, including China, Japan and South Korea, are ready for cooperation, and conditions have changed compared with the past."

China, Saudi Arabia agree to build HTR
The MOU for cooperation in building the high-temperature gas-cooled reactor was signed by King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy (KA-CARE) president Hashim bin Abdullah Yamani and China Nuclear Engineering Corporation (CNEC) chairman Wang Shu Jin. No details of the size of the plant or the project timeline were disclosed.
CNEC has been working with Tsinghua University since 2003 on the design, construction and commercialization of HTR technology. The partners signed a new agreement in March 2014 aimed at furthering cooperation in both international and domestic marketing of the advanced reactor technology.
In a statement today, CNEC said: "After 30 years of basic research, experimental reactor operation and demonstration projects, China has now systematically mastered all the key HTR technologies."
