VOA: Afghan Forces Battle Insurgents Around Kunduz
Afghan officials and insurgent sources said intense fighting is raging near the northern city of Kunduz.
An Interior Ministry statement issued Sunday said Afghan forces killed at least 44 Taliban insurgents and wounded many more in overnight clashes around the provincial capital.
The fighting erupted Friday after the Taliban staged a major offensive on security outposts around Kunduz in its bid to capture the city.
Both sides have since claimed inflicting heavy casualties on the other, but it is difficult to ascertain official and insurgent claims because of the volatile situation in Kunduz and surrounding northern Afghan provinces.
A Taliban spokesman accused Afghan and U.S.-led foreign forces of conducting extensive aerial bombing in and around Kunduz.

Things look good for Obama.
People are predicting the demise of ISIS the Iraq/Syria edition. It will happen in time to male a difference in the election.
Thing I remember is that we could not logistically fully support Afghanistan and Iraq, when one or the other was surging.
We have a smaller army today.
Due to semi-unified yet fractious international pressure it seems ISIS will fall. IMO it won't happen in May but if it seems to be a done deal by November Obama has what he needs.
Two points.
1) ISIS might fall but who will clean up at the table?
Hint it won't be the U.S. or Europe. We will still have the refugees and Erdogan. We will still have motivated terrorists and weak vacilllating leaders. I believe that Iran, the Iraqi Shia, Assad and Russia will clean up. Thx Obama.
2) While ISIS might fall int the Middle East, the Taliban will gain ground in Afghanistan.
The press will hide or downplay Afghanistan and broadcast ISIS's downfall.
Maybe this will work to win in November. Then it is reset and craft a new lie/narrative.
Jeffrey Goldberg comes to mind.
