VOA: Did Brazil's Planning Minister Plot Against Rousseff?
Brazil’s planning minister resigned from office on Monday after a recording of him was made public.
The recording appears to show Romero Jucá plotting the impeachment of now-suspended President Dilma Rousseff. He reportedly was talking with a former oil company official about how to stop a corruption investigation.
Jucá denies the allegations. He claimed that the words he said were taken out of context.
On Monday, the planning minister said he would temporarily resign from the acting government. He had been in office less than two weeks.
The Brazilian newspaper Folha published a partial transcript of the recording on Monday. The Reuters news agency reports that the paper said the recording was made “secretly.”

WNU editor: I would love to know who leaked this phone call. As to Brazil's political crisis .... it seems to me that everyone in that government is corrupt .... and they have all prospered from being in power.

There is "corrupt" and then "less corrupt", and then there are unproven allegations of corruption.
Duffy walked on charges of accepting a cheque, Wright was never charged for writing the cheque.
We will never know what the quid-pro-for-quo was for that deal Jay. But Jay .... you are talking to someone who sat in the Gomery Commission from Day 4 to Day 15 .... what Duffy-Wright did was a piker from what I heard when I sat down and listened to all the corruption and abuse of public funds by the Liberal Party in that commission. And what infuriates me is that Gomery was very explicit on what should and should not be covered, and much of what should have been investigated and pursued by the police and the media was not .... even to this day. And many of the names that were bandied about who enabled all of this corruption .... are the same Laurentian Liberals who are now back in power today. I give it one year before that gravy train starts again.
A personal $90,000 check to a Senator greedy over his personal expenses .... or billions in public funds diverted into friends of the Party .... yeah .... there is "corrupt" and then "less corrupt" and then there is the "out of the sky" corruption.
and people in English speaking Canada wondered why the students went ape when the Quebec Liberals went for tuition hikes.
It's a culture of corruption that trickles right down to the municipal level. Like in my home town when the "Family Compact" on the school board worked with the local media to do a hatchetjob on a trustee who called them out on running private daycares in pulic schools. She was gutted, they partied on.
A simple, disinterested, apolitical citizenry is a boon to the corrupt upper class.
It's the kind of stuff that brings on the cultural revolutions, civil wars and other things people on this forum loathe.
RRH ... I have witnessed and experienced corruption in the Soviet Union, Russia, Ukraine, China, and Quebec. This may surprise a lot of people, and it is my own experience which may (and probably is) different from everyone elses' .... but Quebec is up there with Ukraine as the worst. Canada has been spared so far from what is treated as normal in Quebec .... at least that is what my expat Quebecers are telling me who work outside of Quebec .... but I say give it time.
Wow. "Up there with Ukraine." Ukraine is one of the most corrupt places on earth or so we are told. Actually we are told that the United States is by far and away the most corrupt place on earth.
"Canada has been spared so far." That's good to see. Hopefully it stays that way. I wish the United States had foreign and domestic policies more like Canada. There's a reason Americans intuitively view Canadians as their best friends.
I have no problem believing you at all and agree. Just give it time....
B.,
Our foreign policy IS your foreign policy,or worse. Our "leaders" are so good at slavishly apeing everything Washington says and does that it's effortless.
Of course there a conspiracy to oust Rousseff.
The worst part of the corruption spread is when that became a culture in normal people.
I used to live in Emilia-Romagna, once know as "red region" of Italy (also know as "The Motor Valley" because we are home for Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, Ducati, ecc.) Whit decades of high welfare state, thousand of good products and food, pride of our hard work, social caring and correctness culture, with rate of voters on the elections over the 75% of total.
Today... voters are under the 40% and if you want to pay tax or hire a labor according the laws, peoples ask you: "Why?"
We are sorry, Marx. :(
