Is Stalin Coming Back In Russia?
Anna Nemtsova, Daily Beast: Putin’s New Rival: Stalin
As the Kremlin stokes Russian fears of the West, some young people long for what they think they know about the dictator who saw them through World War II.
MOSCOW — The recent anniversary of the day Hitler invaded the Soviet Union, June 22, was the occasion for thousands of modern-day Communist Party members to take to the streets.
This time, the enemy they marched against was not the Nazis, they declared, it is NATO. But the man they wish were still leading them is Joseph Stalin.
In the middle of the demonstration, a big banner showed the Soviet leader, famous for his moustache and his brutality, knocking down president Barack Obama. “NATO is the fascism of the 21st century,” the banner declared. As the communist demonstrators passed by the Bolshoi Theater, they waved red flags and chanted: “No to the war! No to NATO!”

WNU Editor: For as long as I can remember .... these reports and talk on the "rise of Stalin" in Russia makes the round once or twice a year. Having said that .... it is also true that the Russian Communist party is well positioned to form a majority in the next legislative elections this September .... and they will do so not because of their ideology and platform but because many Russians are just fed up with the corruption in the country, worries on the economy, and no viable moderate political leaders on the Russian political scene right now.

Please, forget Stalin!
Even if it has done 2 or 3 good things, the balance pend heavily on his crimes and the bad influence he had on communism for decades.
Whistling in the dark YC.
Whistling in the dark....
Somebody is certainly tired of the corruption - and the foolishness. Whether it's today's Russia or the USSR of Stalin's time, I just can not get too exercised about crooks and traitors being repressed.
Anyway, can all those babushkas be complety wrong about J.S.? No more than our Editor is methinks.
RRH. I have seen more than my fair share of these old Stalin-Soviet Union-Communism demos and parades in Moscow and Saint Petersburg .... and the above photo actually does not do any justice. Put it in another way .... decrepit mean looking old timers, or hysterically looking but young wannabe revolutionaries. In short .... not a pretty site .... and I am being very polite.
But what is more interesting are the people who walk by these Stalin-Communist-remembering Soviet Union demonstrations/parades. Think of a Ku Klux Klan march and blacks on the sidewalk seeing such a procession go by .... that is the emotions at play .... mine including.

I can see that Editor. It's funny you brought up the comparison with the Klan as liberal capitalist coubtries have been seeing quite the resurgence of hate groups such as the clan.
As an example, just the other day my best friend's son, who is not white, and three of his buddies where confronted by a bunch of idiots waving a confederate flag in their faces as they were walking in the neighbourhood. It did not end well for the Canadian version of the Klan or their flag.
This being said, while I wouldn't disrespect your feelings or reasons for them regarding Stalin, I'm sure the Klansmen and their ilk would do at least ten years hard labour in the USSR of his time. And that ain't bad.
