Washington Free Beacon: Iran Stages Massive War Drills In Show of ‘Supremacy’

Iran has been conducting a series of massive war-drills meant to demonstrate the Islamic Republic’s “supremacy” and show Western forces that the country is prepared to attack forces stationed in the Persian Gulf region, according to Iranian military leaders and reports in the country’s state-run media.
The war drills, which began on Sunday in southeastern Iran and continued into Monday, include ground and air forces as well as unmanned drones.
The war games coincided with the public release by Iran of a new unmanned drone, the latest in a series of such aircraft publicly flown by Tehran in recent months.

WE aren't going to be able to fight and win a war against Iran. Even without foreign assistance to the Iranians, given the current state of the US military winning war against Iran would be problematic at best, only a fifty percent chance at best, and the costs would be enormous in terms of loss of life on the US mainland, economic devastation, and infrastructure devastation. The US might never recover from this and this is assuming the US actually "wins."
In other words this is the best possible outcome and it is bad!! In all likelihood other major powers such as Russia and China are going to side with Iran here. If we can do something to turn some of these countries away from Iran "death to America" we may have a chance.
As I understand it, the current lead nominee for Secretary of State is a businessperson who has good relations with Russian leadership. If so, excellent choice!! With our leading diplomat as someone whom the Russians trust and are willing to work with and even consider a friend, forging good relations with them become much more likely.
If we can get them to support us in a confrontation with Iran or at the very least not to oppose us, Iran becomes easier to deal with. At the very least, Iran would not be so bold as they would no loner be able to act with impunity. With an Iran who may actually have something to fear war becomes much less likely which would be good for everyone.

The idea that the Russians would help us dampen Iran is akin to the notion that the Chinese would control North Korea...not going to happen. Iran blusters non stop, as they have done endlessly about Israel, and yet nothing takes place there either.

It's not the isolated Iran of the '80's bogged down in a Western Proxy War with Saddam's Iraq.
It would be Iran, Iraq and Syria, backed by China and Russia,
And the Petty Kingdoms of the GCC and the Saudi State are all reliant on oil and gas underneath Shia majority areas. So are all the Western Military bases in the region.

Securing some type of Russian assistance is very likely the only way to stop Iran. Perhaps with changes in position on Eastern European NATO, Ukraine, and us doing all we can to undermine sanctions against Russia with the goal of getting them lifted they just might be willing to help us with Iran. These changes in position ultimately would cost the US nothing and have the potential of yielding positive results. There may be other constructive moves we can make.
It's interesting you mention China and North Korea. China is the key here. Secure their cooperation and this problem becomes less difficult to handle. In order to secure such cooperation and to get them to renegotiate the trade agreements, we might agree to be more accomkdating to their positions on the China Seas.

Unfortunately Jay is probably closer to being correct. Slso, relatively speaking Iranian power has increased since mantis while Amdrican power has significantly decreased. Furthermore Iran would likely have the support of not just Russia and China but lijely 90+% of the world. IF we can get the Russians and perhaps the Chinese on our side here, this problem becomes much easier to handle.

Iranian forces including but not limited to Revolutionary Guard are very likely already in America in significant numbers. Given our lax border and immigration policies, I'd estimate this possibility at 99.9999%. They will very likely launch military attacks that include but are not limited to "dirty bombs" and probably suitcase nuclear weapons. Even assuming no suitcase nuclear weapons many millions of Americans would die.
The Russians probably have good intel on these people. Securing their assistance would very likely be most helpful.
