Anthony Cowden, RCD: Trump’s Theory of Foreign Relations
President Donald Trump has so far confounded those looking for a theoretical underpinning to his worldview and approach to foreign policy. His statements so far have provided too little information to pigeonhole his approach in any of the existing models of grand strategy (Primacy, Liberal Internationalism, Balance of Power, or Strategic Restraint), although it is now clear from the inaugural that his overriding theory of foreign relations will be "America First." A Trump administration grand strategy can be best understood as emanating from the process of deal-making.
