U.S. Forces Arrive In Poland



The Independent: US troops cheered as they enter Poland – but Russia decries threat to their 'national security'

Russian President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman speaks of his concern over the Nato deployment, saying Poland ‘is not even a European state’

American soldiers are rolling into Poland, fulfilling a dream many Poles have had since the fall of communism in 1989 to have US troops on their soil as a deterrent against Russia.

US army vehicles and soldiers in camouflage crossed into south-western Poland on Thursday morning from Germany and were heading for Zagan, where they will be based.

The US and other Western nations have carried out exercises on Nato’s eastern flank, but this US deployment will be the first continuous deployment to the region by a Nato ally.

The force size isn't significant to cause real concern for the Russians. But the message is clear, don't expect to expand your territory grabbing. This is all still good news for Putin. He will play this "aggressive" move with his domestic audience to distract them from their daily economic realities which are good and are getting worse. It's the typical move of a dictator.

Russia won't make it half way across Poland in a surprise attack before being completely decimated and turned in a fleeing mass toward Moscow. They don't have the numbers, and they're 1980s weapon technology doesn't scare anybody but smaller, similarly armed former satellite States.
