ISIS has blown up the iconic mosque where it announced its own so called caliphate in 2014, an Iraqi officer has said.

The terror's group's leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi made his only public appearance on the balcony of the al-Nuri mosque in Mosul that year.

Iraq's Joint Operation Command today released a satellite image showing the mosque lying in rubble.

The terror group is said to have blown it up to cover its escape as Iraqi soldiers advanced on the Grand Mosque in the Old City, ISIS's last stronghold in Mosul.

A good spot for a new Home Depot or Lowes...they are going to need a good hardware store in that section of town.

I admire minarets & domes architecturally.

The sound of the call to prayer is pleasing.

So I was sad to see the mosque fall. That was my 2nd thought.

My 1st one was that is as happy that it fell.

All things Islamic make my skin crawl even beards. I see see beards on Civil War veterans on either side and my skin crawls (and they use to look cool). Islam gives a bad name to everything.

Sounds like you got a touch of...

Islamophobia!

But fully agree with the beards. ..a properly trimmed and clean beard can be pleasing to the eye, but not what those isis guys are wearing. ..looks like they don't know about showers or basic body hygiene..even hipsters at Starbucks aren't that bad in comparison ;)

Looks like tithing took an unexpected turn for the worse. Theological issues can be tricky when you add in money.

Beards are manly.

They do look cool.

Unfortunately, the armed forces will not let you have bears or large flourishing moustaches or sideburns like in the 19th century especially the Civil War.

About 5 years ago, my 'hackles' would raise even if I saw a white guy, who was western and Christian or atheist, with a beard.

They say you can get PTSD fro reading the news. Maybe it is true, but so many psych studies fail to replicate.

If you can get PTSD from the news than the Findlay mosque guy has a ready made defense.
