What Is The Russian Reaction To The U.S. Debate And Coverage On President Trump's Decision To Ban Transgenders From Serving In The Military

Graphic by Samantha Lee (Business Insider)

Business Insider:  'What is going on in soulless USA?': Russian media fawned over Trump's transgender ban

In a country where a TV station once said it'd buy its gay citizens "a one-way ticket overseas," Russian media followed Trump's tweets about banning transgender people from serving in the US military closely.

On Wednesday, President Donald Trump tweeted that transgender individuals would not be permitted to serve in the US military "in any capacity" due to the "tremendous medical costs and disruption" their service would allegedly cause.

If implemented, the move would be a direct reversal of former President Barack Obama's 2016 decision to allow people of all genders to serve openly.

WNU Editor: I am right now in Montreal, and the coverage here and in the U.S. is (especially yesterday) overwhelming. It's one of the top 3 stories .... and IMHO very negative towards President Trump (overwhelmingly negative in Canada). According to the above Business Insider story .... this story is also being covered extensively in Russia. I checked my Russian news sites, blogs, social media favourites, etc .... and yes .... the story is being covered .... but the coverage is spotty and what is being posted is buried in the back pages. On Russian social media .... at least those sites that interest me .... it is being ignored.

Hat tip to Fred for the above Business Insider link.

The last thing a soldier needs just before a battle is his mate fiddling with the tampon in his arse. Talk about distraction.

Fred,

Thanks for the link. It is much appreciated. Each country will need to chart courses that make the most sense for their national security. With the exception of Israel none of the countries appear to face any existential threats at the moment. As such, in these countries we have more time and space for "social experiments."

In the case of Israel, most of their forces are serving close to home alongside people they grew up with and have forged strong bonds with. As such, there would seem to be less risk involved with running a social experiment in such a situation. In the case of America, combine the fact that the nations faces existential threats on multiple fronts, its troops are spread out in many cases far from home, they are often times serving with people they haven't forged close relations with, and morale and training are substandard, and the men and women are overburdened. In such a situation, I see huge potential for disaster in allowing transgender personnel to serve along with little upside benefit.

Now perhaps I am wrong. I will freely concede that. I will say by taking on this group front and center DJT takes an enormous political risk in opposing such a powerful special interest group. Strictly politically speaking this is probably a fight he didn't really need right now. With that said much of the problems with the US military are solvable by simply redeploying them to positions that actually make sense for our national security interests.

Exactly, same in Australia, grunts will weed them out themselves regardless of the official line.

I'm not so sure they're all that powerful or numerous - the media intentionally makes it appear so. If they were all that numerous, why try and "flip" 5-year-olds to question their gender or sexual preference? This is happening as I write in some California school districts. Looks to me like they need new recruits....

As for the Navy Seal who is a transgender that was featured, did he/she go off the rails before or after his/her combat tours? While I cannot say for certain, I would hypothesize that this came after his/her combat tours. Given what Navy Seals and others in the US military must deal with, it is a small wonder that more of them do not go off the rails. Lets see, endless deployments to places that make absolutely no sense for America's security or economic needs, use of worn down and outdated equipment, p!ss poor civilian leadership and oftentimes sub standard military leadership as well, and a civilian population who does not appreciate them or support them. It would be enough to drive anyone crazy.

We are talking about seals NOT Spetznaz, please get your descriptions of poor equipmentand sub standard leadership right.

Yes, you own the internet 😂

I own the internet> Wow!! I never knew!! Thanks for the good laugh fazman. I needed it.:-)

Now seriously, beyond the "military porn" the US government likes to show the world that special forces have there really isn't much there. The best description of America in terms of military power, economic might, and pretty much anything else is "Potemkin Village." Of course to point these things out often gets me labeled as "troll" or the one that really causes me to bristle is "anti-American." As I have stated doing that which is right in the face of stiff opposition, is a test of character.:-)

I've patiently explained for quite some time that it is profoundly in our interests to improve relations with Russia and China and I've done so very thoughtfully and very patiently. I'm pleased to see that some here are starting to catch on. Of course little old me had nothing to do with it.:-)

Joint Chiefs: 'No modifications' to transgender policy from Trump tweet

'We will continue to treat all of our personnel with respect,' Marine Gen. Joe Dunford writes.

There will be “no modifications” to the military’s transgender policy as a result of President Donald Trump’s declared ban on transgender men and women on Twitter, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs said in a message to top military officers on Thursday -- the latest sign of the disarray following the commander-in-chief's abrupt announcement.
