CNN: NFL chief, NBA stars slam Trump
Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump came under harsh criticism Saturday from the NFL and some of the NBA's top players after he blasted prominent athletes for kneeling during the national anthem and refusing to come to the White House, putting himself in the center of a controversy with significant racial and cultural undertones.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell slammed Trump in a statement Saturday morning, calling the President "divisive" for remarks he made at a rally in Alabama Friday night, while one of the most famous athletes in the world, LeBron James, called Trump a "bum" for his Saturday morning tweet uninviting Golden State Warriors' Stephen Curry from visiting the White House.
The Golden State Warriors issued a statement later Saturday accepting Trump's dis-invitation.

WNU Editor: Some of the players, the journalists who cover sports, and some of the owners themselves .... for the past two years they have been mixing and/or permitting politics to enter the sport that they play/cover/or own. Disrespecting the national anthem and the flag being the two protests that have received the most attention. Not surprising, a blow-back that has been growing against these protests exploded when President Trump got involved. To say that this is going to hurt professional sport is an understatement. The last thing that many people want to see at a game is politics .... but politics is what is happening. And while many are applauding the players/owners/sport journalists/etc. for the stand that they are taking today .... many are not. In the next few days everyone (i.e. players, journalists. league executives, player unions, and some owners) ... they are all going to pile on President Trump. But President Trump is only voicing what many sports fans have been feeling for the past two years, and they will see these attacks on President Trump as a personal attack on them. LeBron James says that President Trump is using sports to divide Americans .... LeBron James airs frustrations with Trump's comments: He's using sports to divide us (CBS Sports), but someone should tell LeBron James that these protests first started and grew when President Obama was in office .... and it was also then that the division and blow-back against these player protests first started. My prediction .... there are many other sports that one can watch and enjoy .... the NBA and the NFL do not have a monopoly on this type of entertainment ... which is a lesson that these extremely well paid players/sport journalists/and owners are going to find out in the weeks/months to come.

Hey WNU editor did you tell any young whippersnappers to get of your lawn today?
Well-said!
These players have the right to sit amd navel gaze during the National Anthem. Hut the don't have the right to be loved and respeected for it.
And that's the big problem. They are demanding exactly that And who ever criticizes them is the embodiment of racism, bigotry, etc. people by and large are fed up with it.
"Now, keep in mind, this is ESPN, a liberal media out" - Rush Limbaugh 2014
Rush is not telling people to not watch. He has said for 3 or 4 years that he is losing interest. Football talk use to be a regular occurrence on the Rush Limbaugh show. Between talking to hutch and discussing the team, The Steelers, of his adopted hometown, Rush use to talk about football quite a bit.

There is a local talk show host, who has flat out saying that he is boycotting watching more and more teams.
This story is good.

These are the football players that I know and love from college. People who did not have to perform academically, get away with sexual shenanigans/crimes, and general harassment of other college students. Now some of them are telling the nation what is right and what is wring.

The NFL & ESPN are going to lose 1/3rd to 1/2 their base.
I'm... sorta clueless when it comes to American sport. And I'm glad, it's not an area I ever want to delve into.
But what does Trump expect? Is he going to make it illegal not to stand for the Anthem?

The way I see it, it is a form of protest. And I don't see what the big deal is.
Trump is only making more of a problem for himself than anyone else.
WNU Editor: I agree with you. I agree with Trump on this issue. Yet, I can't help but think it's weird as heck that *this* is what Trump is tweeting about, and what the media is covering, given ongoing North Korean news.
Trump threatened to 'totally destroy' an entire country only four days ago, and he's on the verge of announcing his decision on whether to break the Iran nuclear deal, plus he has all the other presidential duties going on... so doesn't he have more pressing matters at hand? He could get a spokesperson or cabinet appointee to handle this NFL thing.
Trump, love him or loathe him, has been a master of PR since the 1980s. He's particularly good at diverting attention from negative coverage by making controversial statements, or picking arguments, that rapidly blow over. I see that happening right now.
Pres. Trump is the real victim here.
Pray for this adult-diaper wearing buffoon in his time of
need.
The players are EMPLOYEES and are free to be disrespectful ON THEIR OWN TIME - NOT AS REPRESENTATIVES OF THEIR TEAMS OR LEAGUES...
It's great that we finally have a president with backbone. Those who disagree with this country need to live in any other country they think is better....how about a one way ticket?
This is just going to accelerate the death spiral of American football, you start pissing off your fan base (mostly conservative) you are going to start seeing less and less money. Who's really getting screwed are the future NFL players, maybe it's for their own good, save them from CTE!
In all fairness, NK pretty much says theyre going to destroy.US daily.

Add to it the CTE issue that Anon ? of 9 posted about.
Think about this. If your buds at the water cooler stop talking about football, you might stop watching. You'll watch what they watch, so you can talk it up at work. Rating drop bight have an interactive effect.

"I'm... sorta clueless when it comes to American sport." Don't worry so are most American athletes.
NFL going down the tubes so ignore them
Movie industry going down the tubes so ignore them
MSM and magazines going down the tubes so ignore them
see? we will prevail with whatever is left to us...
Fred,
What we are witnessing is a cultural battle that has been going on for a long time .... but the blow-back is only being noticed by the main stream media now.
