Kim Joong Ang Daily: Jimmy Carter hopes to meet with North’s Kim

Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter has expressed a desire to visit Pyongyang as a messenger between the United States and North Korea, Park Han-shik, an emeritus professor of international affairs at the University of Georgia, said Sunday.

“Carter wants to meet with the North Korean leader and play a constructive role for peace on the Korean Peninsula as he did in 1994,” Park, 78, told the JoongAng Ilbo over phone after meeting with the 93-year-old former president.

Park, a prominent scholar of North Korea-related issues who has traveled to Pyongyang over 50 times, visited Carter, who received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for his work with the Atlanta-based Carter Center, at the former president’s home in Plains, Georgia, on Sept. 28.

“Should former President Carter be able to visit North Korea, he would like to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and discuss a peace treaty between the United States and the North and a complete denuclearization of North Korea,” Park said, “and contribute toward establishing a permanent peace regime on the Korean Peninsula.”

WNU Editor: Former President Carter would be going to North Korea on a personal trip, he will not be representing the U.S. government. The North Koreans know this .... which is why they will receive him (if they let him come), listen to him, .... and then send him off. This trip will accomplish nothing, but it will give the impression in Asia that the U.S. is looking for a way out .... which is the wrong message to send now.

I approve the travel of J. Carter: he his our best weapon. When he will talk about peace with KJU and his staff they will die from a monstrous over-laughing. Thanks Jimmy.

One thing the US must avoid is getting their hands tied behind their backs.
What if he gets taken hostage or just happens to die there? (He's old enough - it could happen)

The US would be in a situation where war might become impossible to avoid. And I don't think the US Intel services fully understand our enemy, or shall I say enemies? North Korea is -not- working alone. They have received a LOT of financial, political, economic and yes even military aid, material and other supplies from China. Do we really trust China to do the right thing here? We're being robbed every day by them by the billions. They were and still are the biggest supporter of North Korea. Do not underestimate their ruthlessness. It was also the Chinese who came to the help of the north Koreans in the Korean war - again something the Intel services were openly admitting to be completely surprised by. Just look at their actions! !
