Bloomberg: North Korea May Fire Short-Range Rockets Next Week, Daily Says

North Korea is preparing to fire multiple short-range rockets around the opening of the Chinese Communist Party’s twice-a-decade congress on Oct. 18, a South Korean daily newspaper reported.

The South Korean and U.S. militaries have recently spotted about 30 Scud rockets being moved from Hwangju, south of the capital Pyongyang, to a missile maintenance facility in the western coastal city of Nampo, the Seoul-based Asia Business Daily said, citing an unidentified person.

While launching dozens of short-range rockets simultaneously is unusual, it’s not unprecedented. In March 2014, Kim Jong Un’s regime fired 71 of them in a single week. Such a move would also show how North Korea is capable of various types of provocation, having spent the past few months testing missiles that could potentially deliver a nuclear warhead to the U.S. mainland.

WNU Editor: For the Chinese .... it is imperative to them that the world is focused on their Party Congress in Beijing that begins next week on October 18. They want no distractions, no world crisis, and definitely no event that will show Chinese weakness. In the event that North Korea does fire a volley of missiles next week when the Congress is in session, after the Chinese have telegraphed to everyone that they told North Korea to "toe the line", it will be the seen in Asia as a sign that China is not only weak, but North Korea is confident enough to tell everyone that they do not care on what Bejing thinks. This will be seen as a lost of face for China .... a perception that Chinese President Xi does not want right now. If the North Koreans do restrain themselves, it will show the world that China does have influence, and more specifically .... the Chinese will show Washington that they can deal with North Korea, but they will need time. Either way .... it is going to be an interesting week when the Congress starts on Monday. As to what are my expectations on what North Korea will do .... my money is on them being quiet during this time.

again, WNU, respectfully - look at Chinese actions, not what they tell you matters to them. It's all show.

Actions are as follows: Support for North Korea will continue; US will be told again, that invasion of North Korea will essentially trigger war.

Translation: We, the Chinese are ok to give military supplies to North Korea (including the freaking rocket fuel!) and you, dear American friends, cannot even defend yourselves if you want to keep us happy while we help our dear North Korean friends to paint that bulls-eye on you and rob you blind in trillions of industrial espionage and trade barriers.

THAT is what you should worry about, not the show and the tellin "uuuh we don't want to be interrupted". It does not matter. It's just show to make us believe that the rocket launches are not coordinated with them, while they have provided everything to the North Koreans to make the US suffer. Every thing.

Anon,

Since China is now the second most powerful country on earth behind Russia, how do we adjust? If we adjusted and acted accordingly, I think America could have a very bright future.

Lol bposter

You know that the Russian GDP is the size of Italy? Given the Russians' massive landmass and natural resources, this is hardly the results worthy for a "super power". Please learn what super power actually means. There's more than having nukes to it. If Italy rivals your economy, you're already not a super power by definition. Maybe a military super power. But don't make it about Russia all the time, OK? :)

Regarding China : we need to call them out on their crimes. To do so requires an informed population - otherwise our business leaders and the Chinese will keep enriching themselves without any considerations of consequences.
