Missing Argentine Sub Tried To Contact Naval Bases Via Satellite Seven Times

CNN: Argentina: Missing navy submarine tried contacting bases

A missing Argentine submarine attempted to contact naval bases via satellite seven times, but communication with the vessel was not established, the nation's defense ministry said.

The calls came to different bases between 10:52 a.m. and 3:42 p.m. Saturday, and lasted between four and 36 seconds, the ministry said in a statement to CNN en EspaƱol.

"We received seven satellite calls that likely came from the submarine San Juan. We are working hard to locate it. To the families of the 44 crew members: we hope you'll have them home soon," Argentina's Defense Minister Oscar Aguad tweeted.

The military is working with a US company that specializes in satellite communication to determine the location of the submarine that vanished three days ago.

Three days ago. ..how frequent does this kind of sub need to surface for air?
Food and even water shouldn't be an issue for a while. ..but air. ..I hope no one was incompetent and waited around to rescue them.

Lead acid batteries. Basically the same type they used in WWII. Not good as batteries run everything while submerged. Like the air recirc. Some subs are fitted with a buoyant hose-type snorkel. Hopefully this one is.

Thanks for the info. If they don't have that hose system, how long can the air be refreshed on those batteries?

They have just about 36 hours after the battery system is in need of recharge wich mean resurfacing .if they still are under water they're in big trouble right now. they also have same diving oxygen tanks somewhere in the torpedo Bay .
