Spencer Ackerman, Daily Beast: White House Official Floated Withdrawing U.S. Forces to Please Putin
A member of Trump’s National Security Council staff had a radical notion: to pare back American troops in Europe as a way to curry favor with the Kremlin.
A senior National Security Council official proposed withdrawing some U.S. military forces from Eastern Europe as an overture to Vladimir Putin during the early days of the Trump presidency, according to two former administration officials.
While the proposal was ultimately not adopted, it is the first known case of senior aides to Donald Trump seeking to reposition U.S. military forces to please Putin—something that smelled, to a colleague, like a return on Russia’s election-time investment in President Trump. The White House did not immediately respond to The Daily Beast’s request for comment.

Actually this would be an excellent idea that is long overdue. Whether it appeases Putin or not things have changed over the decades. A depleted US military is going to be hard pressed to defend America right now let alone be expected to defend Europe. It is unethical of the Europeans to ask this of America, it is unethical of the American government to expect our young men and women to do this, and it is masochistic and stupid of the American people to allow this to continue.
As this has been the situation for a long time, changing it may not be so simple. Optimally there should be timetables with each country whereby our personnel are removed and theirs fill in the gaps until finally we are all out. Given the dire situation America faces, this simply cannot continue along the current course. The goal should be an orderly transition. Unless Western European governments and the US government get with the program here and coordinate on how to get this done properly, the transition will not be an orderly one.
As such, if someone really is concerned about Russia, they need to be working on an orderly transition whereby American personnel are withdrawn from Europe in an orderly fashion that maximizes western European military readiness. Since the withdrawal has to happen, America has no choice. A disorderly withdrawal and transition would be an unmitigated disaster that would leave Western Europe open to Russian aggression should the Russians be looking to attack.
As for the Baltic countries and former Soviet Bloc countries and to a lesser extent especially of late, they have used and abused America LONG ENOUGH. The longer our military personnel remain in tis situation the deeper the humiliation that America and Americans experience. It is long past time our people were allowed to redeploy with grace and dignity. When candidate Trump suggested such things he was absolutely on the right track and should not abandon the course because he has faced unreasonable opposition.
No surprise to see comrade Bposter post an opinion that'd resemble Putin's wet dreams. Oh no. ..I'm sorry bposter you're American I forgot lol lol
