DW: Trump-Kim Jong Un meeting: How the world reacted

US President Donald Trump has said he will meet the North Korean leader by the end of May. South Korea said the meeting would put denuclearization "on track," while China warned things would "not be smooth sailing."

Merkel and the EU led the hand wringing charge, over and over again, about Trump making the Korean problem worse than Obama. Nice to see they were left out of any role and weren't informed until the rest of us.
Trump took over with many acres of dead wood foreign policy stumps in his yard. Nice to see him clearing the ground, month by month. Who knows if he gets 8 years and keeps up the pace the US might be disentangled from the middle east conflicts and might have slimmed down our alliances to just the ones who carry their weight.

Anonymous,

This is very true. I couldn't have put this any better myself.

"...might have slimmed down our alliances to just the ones who carry their weight." You are correct. You may be new posting here. I have suggested that America's alliance system is misguided. In daring to question this, I have often been accused of being anti-American. Just giving you a heads up.

I would add a couple of things. 1.)The "alliances" Actually need to advance American intersts. For example, do they enhance American national security? 2.)Do they help grow our economy?

2.)During the campaign POTUS correctly called out South Korea by name as an abuser of America. This has largely escaped the analysis here. Essentially a message was aent to South Korea and their leaders. We will NOT be your b!tch boy and our support for you is NOT unconditional. In other words, you need to provide a benefit to us. I'm pretty sure this provided powerful incentive to these people to actually negotiate in good faith.
