The Guardian: EU rushes to arrange crisis meeting with Iran over nuclear deal
Foreign ministers attempt to soothe fears after Trump threatens to hit European businesses trading with Tehran.
The European Union is scrambling to arrange a crisis meeting with Iran after Donald Trump pulled out of the nuclear agreement, as the Iranian president Hassan Rouhani said Europe had a “very limited opportunity” to save the deal.
A day after the US president broke with the landmark 2015 agreement and warned he would seek to hit European businesses that continued to trade with Tehran, the EU vowed to take steps to immunise firms from any US sanctions.

WNU Editor: Truth be told .... the Iranian nuclear deal was (and is) not a treaty. The deal itself was not signed by the Iranian government .... but it was a document that even though it was not binding, there was an understanding on certain points, including the return of seized Iranian assets, the removal of sanctions, and an agreement on how to handle IAEA nuclear inspections. President Trump's executive order simply rescinded President Obama's executive order to recognize this deal. So what are the Europeans going to defend or stand up to? A treaty that does not exist? A document that the Iranians did not sign? Is trade and banking relations with Iran more important to the EU than its trade and banking relations with the U.S.? And with Iran now firing rockets against Israel for the first time .... is this the type of country that Europe wants to be cosy with?
When President Obama announced this nuclear deal in 2015 he did so with the promise that it would help bring peace to the region, and it will stop Iran's nuclear program while at the same time bringing Iran back into the international community. And one must give credit where credit is due .... President Obama was successful in selling it .... even convincing the Europeans to join in. But we now have evidence that proves that Iran was not forthright in declaring what its nuclear intentions were .... and as for peace in the region .... Iranian proxies are now at war with America's two closest allies in the region (Israel and Saudi Arabia), while Iranian chants for "Death to America" are just as shrill as ever. Bottom line ..... this is not what President Obama promised. The spirit of this agreement has not in anyway been transmitted to what is happening in the region today .... in fact it has done the opposite .... it has embolden Iran.
My prediction .... the Europeans are going to look for a compromise, and they will bend to what the Iranians want. But this is going to fail. President Trump is not President Obama, and the U.S. is determined to use its economic hammer against those who decide to break Iranian sanctions. In the end I do expect the Iranians to go back to the negotiating table. Sanctions when properly used are devastating. We saw how it was used against North Korea in the past year .... and we will now be seeing it directed at Iran in the coming year. And as for the EU push to preserve this deal with Iran .... in this battle of "wills" my money is on Trump over Macron/Merkel/and May any day.

"My prediction..." I don't materially dissgree with your prediction. I think this is the plan on the part of POTUS and his team. For this to work, at some point, we are going to need the cooperation of Russia and China. At the very least, we will need to get them to look the other way. Thus far the model for North Korea has largely worked to date because China and Russia have largely been on board. I never realized Iran never signed the agreement!!
I did not agree with Trump leaving the deal. But on the other hand i realise that war is coming between Israel and Iran.JCPOA was going to become a moot point anyway and soon because Israel has no intention of fighting a small limited war they want to tackle the Iran issue for good.So JCPOA was gonna be history regardless of what Trump did or did not do.
Merkel will do whatever Trump wants.
All he has to do is bring a big dog to the summit and Merkel will cry "Uncle!"
My prediction is totally War
Probably the only comment that you have made king that I agree with
