EU Leaders Present A United Front To Combat U.S.-Iran Sanctions And To Avert A Trade War Against The U.S.

Al Jazeera: EU moves to block US sanctions on Iran

EU to activate law that bans European companies from complying with US sanctions against Iran.

The European Commission will launch the process of activating a law that bans European companies and courts from complying with US sanctions against Iran after Washington pulled out of the landmark 2015 nuclear deal.

Jean Claude Juncker, president of the European Commission, said on Thursday the commission has a "duty to protect European companies" from American sanctions.

"We now need to act, and this is why we are launching the process to activate the 'blocking statute' from 1996. We will do that tomorrow [Friday] morning at 10:30," he told a news conference in the Bulgarian capital, Sofia, after a meeting of European Union leaders.

WNU Editor: I am repeating myself from yesterday .... but I still find it perplexing that the EU is rushing to embrace Iran .... a country that calls for the extermination of Israel, lied about its nuclear program, suppresses its people, engaged or threatening war against Western allies in the Middle East, and is a major support of terror groups .... over the U.S.. As for today's EU meeting on Iran sanctions .... even French President Macron is skeptical that the EU can do anything .... Macron rules out trade war over Iran deal as firms head for exit (Reuters). This is not about iran or israel , this is about power strugle , trump in dumping the nuclear agreament proved the notion that US order and europe follow , dispensing the appearance of equality . This is trump mistake as he is working like a CEO in the US . No one (especially leaders of other country ) will allow trump to get away with this , and it dose not matter if it about Iran . People forget that this alliance (nato ) is a miracle , pre ww2 people would not believe it if they heard about it , Germany ,France and the rest of europe , working together with the US in the same
page .Trump is undermine that , and what surprising is if he was little tactful and diplomatic (the same way he was said to be with the dictators around the world ) this would have been solved quietly

Iran: We want to wipe Israel off the map and are working towards doing so. We also sponsor terrorism and constantly threaten war.

"Brainy Folks": Let's give them sanction relief and don't worry everybody, their nuclear program is for only peace purposes only.🙄

----------

North Korea: Pretty much same threats and nuclear nonsense.

United States: Kim probably shouldn't have nukes... Let's restrict their ability to do so and force a deal.

Flash forward to Kim Jong Un holding hands with Moon Jae-In...A sight we never thought we would see.

Perplexed at the EU's behavior? I'm not. Merkel and other leaders have serious #NeverTrump syndrome. They are captives of their own hatred towards the man and his politics. A super majority of Germans agree with her, so it's good politics as I'm sure you are aware.

Merkel has been saying for quite a while now that the EU needs to have more room between the USA and the EU, this is the catalyst for her to do it. Of course alienating the US is a suicide mission for Europe. Trump has actually reinvigorated NATO by spending billions to put more American firepower in Europe, reversing Obama's neglect. Should Merkel lead the EU to launch economic warfare against the US, anyone think Trumps keeps the money flowing to defend NATO? I could see American bases in Germany closed down.

EU is a little bit less than nothing. There is still no telephone number to reach since Kissinger ask the question. Don't tell that's "President" J.C. Junker or Donald Tusk....they have NO power.

Sir--
Maintaining an agreement is hardly embracing. It is after all US that broke the treaty

Anon,
This was never a treaty. From the U.S. side it was done by an executive action from President Obama that President Trump decided to rescind. In fact .... no one signed any agreement .... including the Iranians. This was a document that every announced they would follow. That is it.

The EU leadership is corrupt.

About the only positive is for rich people to get cheaper labor.

Other than that no one got anything worth while.
