Reuters: South Korea says North Korea committed to Trump summit and 'complete' denuclearization
SEOUL (Reuters) - North Korean leader Kim Jong Un reaffirmed his commitment to “complete” denuclearization of the Korean peninsula and to a planned meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, South Korean President Moon Jae-in said on Sunday.
In Washington, U.S. President Donald Trump signaled that preparations for a June 12 summit with Kim were going ahead, despite having called the meeting off last week.
Moon and Kim agreed at a surprise meeting on Saturday that the possible North Korea-U.S. summit must be held, Moon told a news conference in Seoul.
“Chairman Kim and I have agreed that the June 12 summit should be held successfully, and that our quest for the Korean peninsula’s denuclearization and a perpetual peace regime should not be halted,” Moon said.

WNU Editor: The South Korean President said the same thing a few weeks ago when he declared that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un affirmed his commitment to “complete” denuclearization of the Korean peninsula .... and we know where that ended. North Korea suspending ties with South Korea, not showing up for meetings with South Korean officials on reconciliation, and to top it all off .... warning the U.S. of a nuclear apocalypse, vowing not to denuclearize, and not showing up or answering phone calls concerning the Singapore summit. For these talks and the peace process to proceed, South Korean President Moon has to do better than just repeating what he said only a few weeks ago and/or blaming the U.S. on why these talks are not proceeding as planned .... Update: I take this as a sign that the U.S. wants to hear it from the North Koreans themselves .... and not what the South Korean President is saying .... on where these talks are heading .... As far as the SK leadership is concerned an old saying comes to mind, "fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me." Bottom line: US leadership should have never trusted SK. When I first learned of talks between SK and NK, I had pointed out that we needed to be involved in them knowing what was happening in real time. It seems we did not do this.
On the plus side, to the best I can tell at least we haven't actually given up anything significant yet and we did get some prisoners back even if these people likely had no business being there and we have gotten time, which I hope and pray has been used wisely, to prepare our military and our homeland security for a war with NK should it be necessary.
I feel uneasy about this meeting to say the least. What kind of security do you think Trump would have at this meeting? What do you think would happen in the event that Trump is assassinated? I feel like there is more at play than just peaceful negotiations. Doesnt make sense for Kim to publicly pull two 180's like that.
