On both sides of the Atlantic borders have become a big issue in the guise of the equivalent question of whether a country can restrict the entry of migrants to numbers the electorate regards as sustainable.
In the US the family impact of arresting illegal aliens has intensified political hostility nearly to the point of physical conflict. The New York Times sadly notes Trump supporters no longer even listen to the media's frequent denunciations of the incumbent president. How can they stand him? "This includes portions of the wealthy college-educated people in swing counties ... and the endless stream of tough cable news coverage and bad headlines about Mr. Trump only galvanizes them further."

WNU Editor: As usual ..... Richard Fernandez nails it. Read the whole thing if you have the chance. On a side note, earlier today a regular reader of this blog emailed me to remind me that when the Soviet Union was falling apart, the leadership were oblivious to the changes that were happening around them until they were unceremoniously thrown out. He mentioned this because he sees similarities with what is happening today to what happened in the Soviet Union before the fall. Upon reflection .... I have to say that he is right. I know in my case my father was in shock when the Soviet Union was disbanded. We even went to Red Square to see them bring down the Soviet flag and put up the Russian flag ... something that he told me that never taught he would see in his lifetime. Flash forward to today, I definitely do see multiple similarities. Before the fall .... the Soviet media/much of the political class/special interests groups/pundits/ and especially the national and international policy think tanks and organizations in Moscow .... they were all collectively misreading and/or choosing to ignore what was happening outside of their bubble. And the end result .... to their shock .... within a year all of these people were thrown out of power, and what influence they had was stripped from them. Are we on the cusp of such a similar radical change happening in the West? I can only speak for myself, but when I am looking at today's U.S. and Western landscape .... I do feel that I am reliving history. That today's media/much of the political class/special interests groups/pundits/ and especially the national and international policy think tanks and organizations .... they are all collectively misreading and/or choosing to ignore what is happening outside of their bubble. President Trump was the first shock to the system .... but he is not going to be the last. I commented after the recent G7 summit and the overwhelming negative coverage of President Trump that in two years the only one who would be left from the Quebec summit will be President Trump. The rest will be gone, or be on the verge of being kicked out. And as for the media/think tanks/special interest groups/etc. .... they are also not going to be immune from this shake-out. Something new is coming, the best that we can do is personally be prepared for it.

I believe you are correct the anti trump campaign is to obvious in its intent for its own good.
This is nuts he is right, why the hell have borders?
If an election comes down to "open borders" vs "well regulated borders" it's going to be a landslide, no matter which hemisphere you live in.
This will finish badly.

This is occurring at Casa Padre, the country's largest shelter for migrant children, which gained attention for its cramped sleeping quarters and dehumanizing practices.
An aspect of massive migrations, not noted: whereas these migrants are either political refugees or economic migrants searching for better way of life, many if not most of these migrants come from nations that do not make sex education and birth control available, and nations where a rather conservative US govt policy has forbidden birth control and discourages abortion. Thus, these people grow up in nations whose main religion(s) encourage pregnancies and discourage birth control, ie Catholicism and Muslimism. There are consequences always associated with demogrphics
They are not being "forced". By what, point of gun? Threat or intimidation? Depending on where you want to get this topic from, you will read everything from these kids being "forced" to recite the pledge of allegiance and are being intimidated to show respect to a "country that has forcibly separated them from their parents" , or that they are offered a chance to learn some basic english whilst waiting for their placement status.
If you come to a new place,uninvited and breaking the law, you better show some respect for the host. This is the same in every country. Only in America - and I've been to my fair share of places (every continent except Africa) - you have to show respect to the host nation. But no. .the Democrats cry their outrage acting battle cry.. so pathetic and transparent. .where were they under Obama. Nowhere..I do not recognize the democratic party of today. It's fair to say the republican party at first also lost its way and (some of) the teabaggers were difficult to accept. .but I'd rather talk to a tea bagger than an outrage actor. I blame social media. .it's the same tactic on Twitter. .the more outraged you appear the more retweets and likes you get and you're barely ever called out. Chinese look at you and laugh their asses off about what fools you have over there
