Bloomberg: Pompeo Sees North Korean Denuclearization in Trump's First Term
* Top diplomat arrives in Seoul to brief allies on the summit
* Trump tweets that ‘there is no longer a Nuclear Threat’
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said he expects North Korea to take the major steps toward nuclear disarmament during Donald Trump’s first term, as the U.S. president tweeted that there’s “no longer a Nuclear Threat from North Korea.”
Pompeo, speaking to reporters in Seoul on Wednesday, sought to quell criticism that North Korea didn’t make any major commitments at the summit in Singapore.
“We’re hopeful that we can achieve that in, what was it, the next two and half years,” the top American diplomat said when asked how soon the U.S. wanted to see North Korea move to dismantle its nuclear weapons program. “We’re hopeful we can get it done. There’s a lot of work left to do.”

On a side note .... and you are hearing it from me first .... if U.S. Secretary Of State Pompeo pulls this off .... and it is a BIG IF .... this will deserve a Nobel Prize, and it will be he, South Korean President Moon, and a North Korean counterpart who will be awarded and recognized with a Nobel Peace Prize. President Trump will not be recognized.

These talks will drag on for all this year and next. I expect many walk-outs and temper tantrums.
Editor,
I agree with your analysis. This is all a BIG IF. I also agree that the decision makers would never award Trump such a prize even if it is deserved. With that said POTUS is not thinking about such things. He is more focused on what needs to be done. IF this succeeds that is the important thing, not who gets the Nobel.
IF it succeeds, Pompeo would seem to be deserving. Given Kim's track record, it would seem problematic to award him with such an honor. As such, a top North Korean official who has/had a key role would seem a reasonable accommodation. As for the choice of Moon, he seems to have contributed little of value here. In fact, after misleading POTUS and his team on the willingness of North Korea to make concessions he has pretty much had to be frozen out of the process all together. Unless something changes he would not seem a good choice. As there is still much work to be done, he may yet have an important role. To date, Trump seems to be really the only new variable. As such, I primarily credit him for the progress made to date. In the final analysis, it is to early to be handing out Nobels and this isn't particularly important in the grand scheme of things. Achieving peace is what matters which America MUST have.
I agree this is a BIG IF. With that said if I were placing odds on it right now I would say there is about an 85% Pompeo and team Trump are going to pull this off. If this des not work, there are other options we can pursue.
Kim will get it before anyone else. The liberal world is so twisted that as long as you wear a suit and glasses and speak the way they do, they'll ignore much. Killings don't matter. As long as you didn't have an affair with a woman of course. If you done that you're toast (the woman who went into the mutual relationship is of course an abused hero and gets your belongings lol)
