Report: 100 Elite Afghan Commandos Reported Killed From Taliban Onslaught

Long War Journal: Taliban routs Afghan Commandos while overrunning remote district in Ghazni

As Taliban fighters continue to battle Afghan forces for control of the provincial capital of Ghazni city, its fighters overran the remote district of Ajristan and routed elite Afghan Commandos who were assigned to defend it. Upwards of 100 Commandos are reported to have been killed after their unit melted away into the mountains.

On its official website, Voice of Jihad, the Taliban claimed it overran the “Ajristan district administration center, police headquarter and other installations” on the afternoon of Aug. 11. The Taliban claimed it killed “an infamous enemy commander Baido along with 5 others,” and captured 25 Afghan security personnel.

RIP
It takes balls to defend your country against an enemy like the Taliban. They are a formidable force and it's not a level playing field at all. I hope these guys didn't die in vain and that the Afghan population will honour their sacrifice

It was the commander and 5 killed. Seems like Taliban pr is effective.

You can take this "report" with a grain of salt, subtract by at least half, and there is the true story. A hundred casualties is reasonable, 100 killed is an exaggeration. This is the yearly Taliban publicity stunt, that has you suckers hitting the chicken switch. If I were the Afghan government I would look into these Taliban friendly "reporters", me thinks they are Taliban fanboys. They said the same thing about the attack on Kunduz several years back. OMG they have taken Kunduz, the Taliban are awesome, yet after a few days of winning, the Taliban end up losing big. Whack a mole.

Jim, exactly, someone is exaggerating and as usual the suckers are buying hook, line and sinker, every time.

The blog citing this story gives two sources for its account. Those in the know, ie those commenting here, seem to know more. Can you give your sources for your insights?

I can read, and I read more on the non-American stuff in Afghanistan more than most. Almost always we get stories of the Taliban took this and the Taliban took that, but if you do just a little more reading and research online, you will find the true story, in that YES they took a post or small base, they ALWAYS lose it within a few minutes or hours , THAT never gets reported, NEVER. So the ASSHOLES reporting the losing are jerks trying to get you to buy their bullshit. Give it a few days in Ghazni and you will find out they never held city, maybe held a few buildings so their "journalist" buds can snap their propaganda videos and pics and disappear back into the mountains. Happens every time, never believe the initial reports. Government troops got surprised took some losses and inevitably retake or push out the Taliban. Taliban just do not have the manpower to firepower to hold anything for long.
