CNBC: Mattis relationship with Trump reportedly frays as a decision on his fate looms, but White House dismisses

The relationship between President Donald Trump and Secretary of Defense James Mattis may have "soured" to the point of no return, The New York Times reported on Saturday.
The Times is reporting that national security aides such as Mattis have effectively been iced out by Trump in the buildup to the 2018 congressional midterm elections.

The relationship between President Donald Trump and Secretary of Defense James Mattis may have "soured" to the point of no return, The New York Times reported on Saturday — but the White House denied the former general is on the outs with his boss.

In its report, The Times cited more then a dozen administration and congressional officials saying that national security aides such as Mattis have effectively been iced out by Trump ahead of the 2018 congressional midterm elections. Trump is reportedly souring on Mattis based on policy differences on a number of fronts, and appears resentful of unflattering comparisons between the two men, the publication reported.

As to the bigger question .... should he be replaced? There are pluses and minuses to replacing someone like Secretary of Defense Mattis. At the moment his position appears to be secure, but he serves at the pleasure of the U.S. President, and President Trump may want someone else.

Mattis should serve 4 years IMHO.

That is just me.

Agreed anon, 4 Years minimum. If he wants to.
As for CNBC's speculation, the "may" says it all. Click bait. Didn't touch it.

WNU;

You mentioned negatives that could come from replacing Mattis. I hope Trump is not irrational enough to do so. To me replacing would be intolerable. I have a feeling Trump would lose Kelly also should he replace Mattis.

"May Have "Sourer" - NYT

If Carter Page successfully sues the NYT, it will go bankrupt with in 5 years.

What opportunities does Page have after Democrats came in and trashed his life. He has nothing to lose.

Judicial Watch or others with deep pockets need to back him and eviscerate the NYT financially.

“Sitting with Bill watching CNN. A TON more out,” -- Peter Strzok

“Hey let me know when you can talk. We’re discussing whether, now that this is out, we use it as a pretext to go interview some people,” - Peter Strzok

A movie that examines or studies pretexts
Pretext for War: This is discussed several times.

Peter Strzok did know that there was collusion. Peter knew there was not collusion. Peter just needed an excuse to go after the other side, a pretext.

Powers Boothe is great in the miniseries BTW.
