Middle East Eye/AFP: US to maintain presence in Syria as long as Iran remains there, official says
US special representative on Syria says Trump's mission may not include troops
The United States will stay in Syria as long as Iran maintains its presence, but the US role will not necessarily involve troops, a senior official said on Thursday.
James Jeffrey, the US special representative on Syria, was clarifying recent comments by senior officials who appeared to suggest that troops would stay indefinitely to counter Iran.
Such an objective would drastically alter the mission in Syria first authorised by President Barack Obama, who set a goal of defeating the Islamic State (IS) group, which also considers Iran a foe.

Mission creep is defined as adding new missions that weren't expected to the original mission thus dragging out the involvement. Syria isn't Vietnam, the Godfather of mission creep.
Original mission was to defeat ISIS. To do that the US allied with the Kurds to send in airpower, artillery and a small number of combat troops for self defense and training and equipping the Kurds. As that mission unfolded large parts of Syria came under Kurdish-US control as a necessary part of destroying ISIS. In other words the US is in charge of about 40% of Syrian territory. No added troops are contemplated either.
It is a unimaginable stretch to think the US having gained this land will turn it over to the Mullahs, the main effective fighting force on the ground with Assad's troops.
Unimaginable. No mission creep.
There was no mission creep in Vietnam. None
The goal was always to defeat communism.
The only problem was with politicians telling voters that was our goal.
Profiles in courage JFK & LBJ.
Indeed.
Fighting a war on land you were not invited to. That's called oocupation
"Presidential elections were held in Syria on 3 June 2014. It was the first multi-candidate election in decades since the Ba'ath party came to power in a coup. In late April 2014, Bashar al-Assad announced he would run for a third term in Syria's first multi-candidate direct presidential election."
Funny dat.
Were all the Sunnis invited to vote including those being tortured in prison since 2011?

The Russians did come across the Euphrates. That was called thew Wagoner group and ...
The Russian did a lot west of the Euphrates. Certainly after they stepped in and stepped up operations, the coward Obama was shamed into acting.
Test: two russian trolls work their wiles at this site.
