Michael Spirtas, The Hill: Are we truly prepared for a war with Russia or China?
It would be terrible if the United States got into a major war, but it would be much worse if it lost one.
Despite growing threats from Russia and China, American experiences in Afghanistan and Iraq have created weariness in the American public and have focused the country on counterterrorism and counterinsurgency instead of major power warfare.
To deter, and if necessary defeat, Russian and Chinese aggression, the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) would likely need a strategy to overcome these obstacles.

Who want to be destroyed?
China lost territory the size of Texas or California or more to Russia in an unequal treaty.
Irredentists never forget.
However, irredentists might keep their peace and look south for bigger gains.
We do not have to fight the Chinese Navy in the South China sea.
We just make sure Argentina, Brasil and other places do not ship food to China.
We will see how well the Trans-Siberian railroad transports Russian and Ukrainian wheat to China.
Okay, scratch Ukrainian wheat.
There is always the fall back position of nuking them 'til they glow.
And you don't think they would nuke back moron? In a major war,we all would die. Never understood why Yankees get dumber by the day?
Rather would have a large conventional military so that China does not do to say Vietnam or the Phillipines what Germany did to Czechoslovakia and or Poland.
Barring that nukes work.
Muslims are not afraid to die while fighting jihad.
Personally, I am not afraid to die.
Why are you so intent on trying to make me afraid?
Is it because you are afraid to die?
You want your cakewalk pushover, but do not want to risk anything?
Which country are you trolling from anyway?
You don't have answer that. I can find a person that will tell me.
"Why are you so intent on trying to make me afraid?"
Trying to make you afraid of nuclear war is bad? Huh?
...The fact that you have a vote equal to mine scares the heebie-jeebies out of me.

Generally I must agree. Of course you are assuming our nuclear arsebal actually works. Candidate Trump was right to question this. Frankly the US is unlikely to win a conventional war against Russia or China. If America is to survive, it is going to need to rely on its nuclear deterrent.
Unfortunately some of our policies seem unnecessarily provocative towards Russia and China. It's as though our leadership is going out of their way to pick fights with them. This includes POTUS. If one wishes to advance within an organization, it's generally a bad idea to pick fights with the leadership. One seeks to add value to the leadership. When one does this, one advances. Failure to do this leads to job loss, lack of career advancement, and a reputation as being untrustworthy.
