U.S. Secretary Of State Pompeo: North Korea Has Agreed To Allow Inspectors Into Nuclear Testing Site

Reuters: Pompeo says North Korea ready to let inspectors into missile, nuclear sites

SEOUL (Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Monday North Korean leader Kim Jong Un was ready to allow international inspectors into the North’s nuclear and missile testing sites, one of the main sticking points over an earlier denuclearization pledge.

Pompeo, who met Kim during a short trip to Pyongyang on Sunday, said the inspectors would visit a missile engine test facility and the Punggye-ri nuclear testing site as soon as the two sides agree on logistics.

“There’s a lot of logistics that will be required to execute that,” Pompeo told a news briefing in Seoul before leaving for Beijing.

The top U.S. diplomat also said both sides were “pretty close” to agreement on the details of a second summit, which Kim proposed to U.S. President Donald Trump in a letter last month.

The US, South Korea, North Korea talks are like Kabuki or in American terms, watching alligators wrestle in open water. Who knows the ending? I am unable to believe in the North's sincerity given China's long term usage of them to distract and torment the USA. China is in a serious contest with the USA in all aspects of national power, I can't imagine it will let the North make peace with the US and its two Asian neighbors without extracting extremely valuable concessions.

TRUE

That is one of the 'AWESOMEST' posts in a long time!

I really do not care if U.S troops are in South Korea. The only reason I care, is that by having them there as a tripwire, it makes the U.S. live up to its treaty obligations.

Without the 1st time China wants to come south of the parallel itself of using it proxy, North Korea, a really flexible politicians like Obama will say "What can we do, fait accompli."

The only reason we are in South Korea is 'lil Kim got the green light from Moscow and Beijing to invade. Before that we were not there. If we had been there before then, we would not have had to send a Task Force Smith. QED

It was Chinese policy to not have foreign powers such as America on its flanks. We were not. It was Chinese policies that ended up putting American troops in south Korea.

Taiwan, Japan, The Phillipines, Korea should not be in the Chinese Sphere.

You do not need to have hegemony to have influence. Indic influence was felt all the way to Vietnam, China and Java. No armies were involved.

China can and will have influence because of trade and culture. If they want influence due to force, we can fight. We can fight all day and the fighting will be good. We can come to enjoy fighting.

Given the massive destruction of NK way back I wonder if at some point NK will insist that during negotiations Old Glory not be part of the meeting settings?
