Dean Cheng, Daily Signal: In a War With China, the US Could Lose

Two separate government commissions issued reports this week, and each highlighted the growing threat stemming from the People’s Republic of China.

The National Defense Strategy Commission is a congressionally mandated panel comprised of both Republican and Democratic officials, charged with examining the new U.S. national defense strategy, which came out in 2017.

The national defense strategy marked a major revision of U.S. defense strategy, as it shifted focus from countering terrorism—a priority since 9/11—to countering major, revisionist states, namely China and Russia.

The commission’s report did not challenge this shift in focus, but made clear that major changes and reforms are necessary if the military’s priority is to counter China and Russia.

Most likely no, everyone is so focused on hardware but forget that China has close to no experience in logistics, planning, etc.
A war with the U.S is NOT the kind of learning curve you want your sailors and airmen to have.

Uhmmm the US would win hands down

1) much, much more experience - not just in naval combat but also the logistics and how to take islands for supporting forward ops

2) many many more allies, including all of Europe, Nato and even most Asian nations, including importantly Japan and Australia. Most have own nukes or operate on a nuke sharing basis

3) Chinese leaders may want a war, but Chinese sailors would piss themselves seeing the US flag, as it'll likely mean they'll die in the next few minutes

4) geography. The US geography is more advantageous. China - by its own doing - is now entirely surrounded by hostile or adversary nations.

5) Trump. He would eat Xi's brains while that winniepooh bear character so thinks about why Trump bombed Syria during their after dinner chocolates years ago. Dragon energy!

Of course the US could lose a war with China, I figured this out over 20 years. I'm pleased that our leadership class is finally starting to figure this out.

As for the experience factor among others very respectfully I think this is overrated. A man may have more "experience" but if the leadership is bad, he's worn down from overwork, lacks the basic training needed to perform at a high level, lacks the basic moral support needed from the government, and perhaps even from the people themselves it's going to be problematic for him when he faces the nan who while perhaps is "inexperienced," is well trained, highly motivated, rested and ready, well led, and has the full backing of the government and the people. In fact, the exhausted Germans of WW2 faced a similar situation to what America faces today. When faced with wave after wave of fresh, well led, and well trained forces from America faced little choice but surrender. I think there's a strong possibility America could be facing a similar situation. Yes, America most definitely can lose a war with China.

Has the US Navy learned basic navigation yet? After several collisions at sea, I'm not inspired. When a country stretches its forces to thin, morale and training suffer. Has the leadership improved? After the bizzare rants by men like McRaven and Brennan along with a general failure by the rest of the leadership to condemn the rants of these men suggests much of the leadership is pathologically insane.

Very respectfully to the other commentors who aren't American who would cheerlead for such a confrontation, you're not American!! The heads of your loved ones aren't on the chopping block.

When he states no one would win, at least from the American perspective this may be the best outcome. At a minimum, 10s of millions of our citizens would die.

Anon (6:29AM),

With regards to your last point, Trump is brilliant. Just how workable this is in a government setting where he is surrounded by incompetent boobs and political hacks that can't be readily purged and who want to destroy him remains to be fully known. Trump's brilliance is a wild card of sorts that I believe increases our chances.

His actual policies towards Russia and China have been tougher than those of his predecessor. I'm pretty sure they want Trump gone.

Dude...there's about 120 nations on the US allies side. You should really look at how isolated China is

Anon (11:12AM),

The vast majority of US "allies" are users and abusers of American largess and do not currently impress. Should things go well their leadership will pose for pictures, smile real big, and take much of the credit all while raking in billions courtessy of us. Meanwhile the Americans bear the brunt of the risks, costs, and lives lost.

POTUS was/is right to call out these "allies." In fairness, Australia has generally been reliable. Japan and South Korea, while improvement is needed, progress has been made. In such a conflict, China would likely have Russia and much of central and South America as allies. It remains to be known how reliable they'd be to them. Given the track record of our "allies," I see no cause for optimism combined with much reason to not be optimistic and should things go badly for us expect these "allies" to be nowhere to be found.

There's quite a few allies who lost loved ones in the different wars and missions they supported. It's easy to look up. So maybe check yourself
