VOA: Trump Threatens to Shut Mexico Border if Migrants Cannot Be Controlled
WASHINGTON — U.S. President Donald Trump threatened Thursday to shut down the U.S.-Mexican border, disrupting a $1.68 billion-a-day trading relationship, if his government cannot control the flow of undocumented migrants seeking to cross into the United States from Latin America.
Trump was speaking to reporters at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, where he is spending the Thanksgiving holiday. He also reaffirmed Defense Secretary Jim Mattis's remarks Wednesday that U.S. troops at the Mexican border have been authorized to use lethal force if necessary to defend Border Patrol agents from would-be border crossers.
