The Guardian/AFP: China refuses to release detained Canadians, despite demands
Beijing expresses ‘strong dissatisfaction’ and opposition to US and Canadian statements and accuses west of double standards.
China on Monday lashed out at Canada and the US for demanding the release of detained Canadians and accused Western countries of double standards.
“The Chinese side expressed strong dissatisfaction and resolute opposition to the statements made by Canada and the US,” Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said at a press briefing.
Beijing this month detained two Canadians – the former Canadian diplomat Michael Kovrig and China-based businessman Michael Spavor – whom they accuse of engaging in activities that “endanger China’s security”.

Media trying to cover for Trudeau’s incompetences. Our dear leader wants that trade deal with China awful bad but is trying very hard not to step on the toes of the U.S. a delicate balancing indeed........ but Canadians shouldn’t be sold out for a trade deal.
Fortunately this is the best thing which can happens. Yes, no foreign person is secure in China and that's the marvelous message we can spread all around the world. Guy's get out of this country! India, Indonesia, Thailand and many more will welcome American companies for business. On top of that, they are not behave as Chinese gangster's: they are not taking hostage!
