CNBC: White House suggests it could back down on $5 billion border wall demand
* The White House could back down from its demand for $5 billion in border wall funding in a year-end spending bill, press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders says.
* Parts of the government will shut down on Saturday if lawmakers don't pass spending bills.
* Trump has threatened to let funding lapse if he cannot secure money for the border wall.
The White House suggested Tuesday that President Donald Trump could back down from his demand for $5 billion to fund his proposed border wall in a year-end spending bill.
Trump's push for the money has threatened a partial government shutdown when funding for seven agencies lapses after midnight Friday. Last week, the president said he would be "proud" to close parts of the government over border security.

This $4.8 billion U.S. aid package is going to be swallowed up and never seen again, and more importantly, do zero to stop the flow of illegal migrants into the U.S. .... Your comment pretty much nails it, however, I would add to this Mexico is at best a competitor and more likely an enemy. Giving money to an enemy makes no sense.
Even if Mexico were not an enemy the corruption charge is still correct. This would make it a bad investment. As such, we,could stop right there. This money would be better spent on much needed,infrastructure projects in the US that can be monitored and will actually have a return on investment.
Even if Mexico transformed itself overnight, all corruption were eliminated, and Mexico became a friend of America, much of America's infrastructure is in dire straits and many of our people are very, very poor and barely surviving. We simply don't have the available resources to spend on an aid package to Mexico. Those precious resources are needed here in America.
Frankly, if a government shutdown is needed to achieve the proper allocation of resources for a border wall that will enhance our national security, I would support this and I would support the leaders who stand firm on this issue. A more sensible deployment if our military personnel and assets is going to be needed as well.
This is a giant F/U to Trump and 60 million Trump voters. I can hear the Dem's sniggering from SoCal.
It's time for an executive order stopping that money today and diverting it to the wall. Mexico was instrumental in bringing the caravans north. No way they deserve $4.8B in pure charity.
