Time: Haiti's President Says He Won't Step Down as Violent Protests Grip the Capital

Voice of America reports that President Jovenal Moise appeared on national television Thursday to address calls for his for resignation. Critics claim his government lacks transparency and is ineffective.

This happens in Haiti every few years or s0, and is another example of what a shithole that country is. I have no sympathy for them, none, these are the same idiots who cut down all their trees for crying out loud.

You can cook today and cut down the tree or die. It makes sense to cut down the tree.

Their are currency controls on Latin American countries and China to keep people from fleeing.

Someone at the top needs to make a stand, take a modest salary and persuade other top and mid level people do likewise.

You could 'make' them and that ends badly. The current record is 70 or so years for the Soviet Union. So I say persuasion. There is the old saw of convinced against your will is unconvinced still. People will pantomime the 'correct' attitudes, saying, beliefs and actions, but the country will not meet the threshold success rate. Nonconformances will be to high and slowly society will poison itself. Leaders must lead by example.

But all Russian leaders have dachas outside Moscow; most every Congress critter is worth 3+ million after being in Congress and the true believes of Hugo Chavez retired to Houston and Miami after stealing Venezuela blind. Even true blue Danny Glover got his 18 mil or so.

At the end of the day periodic anti-corruption drives will not cut it. Those are for political machinations more than rooting out corruption.

This is just my way of saying that the people of Haiti are no different than people elsewhere. I've read that the Haitians of the Red Hook district of NYC are harder working than native 'African Americans' for example. You have the same sociological operating conditions among the Haitian population, but in Haiti you have or had different starting conditions or boundary conditions. Don't expect sociologists to get it right and do not expect a Clinton to help. If a Clinton comes along hold onto your wallet and expect to get fleeced with your long distance calls as they put their hand in the till.
