RFE: Russia Launches New Submarine Believed Capable Of Carrying Nuclear-Armed Drones

Russia has launched a special-purpose, nuclear-powered submarine that is believed capable of carrying nuclear-tipped underwater drones that when fully developed could threaten U.S. coastal cities.

The submarine Belgorod was launched on April 23 in the northwestern city of Severodvinsk. Russian President Vladimir Putin watched the proceedings via video link from the Severnaya Shipyard in St. Petersburg.

State-run TASS news agency said development work on the Belgorod will continue and that tests will begin next year with a goal of deploying the vessel by the end of 2020 or early 2021.

In an age where everything can and has been hacked, this is reckless and could lead to the end of the world. Just think about how many people are in suicidal/religious death cults. What's stopping them from firing missiles at eg the US,triggering a nuclear holocaust?

But whatever Putin wants goes. What a madman and SHAME on the Russian people to not stop this. You're all guilty!

And China will likely hack it by next week. Oh boy. The stupidity, moral corruption and recklessness of Putin knows no bounds.

If everyone carried around a loaded gun eventually somebody will get killed for no reason at all. Well that does seem happen in the US and people get killed for no reason at all so I guess the point is made.

Bob.. I appreciate where you're coming from, but in western Europe, say London - where guns are outlawed- people stab and hack each other to death. And they now also use acid - to disfigure you for life. I almost prefer dying by gunshot if I had to choose.

I'm European and of course against guns. But, you either take them all away and stop 3D printing (which you can't) or you'll actually implement laws that work. Because all the laws on book and background checks have failed over and over and over again.

The core reason for murder is hatred filed by desparation and mental disease. You can't take that out of humans. BUT if you provide safety nets so people don't have to rob a store at gun point or with a knife, then you can actually reduce those deaths. In Germany for example there's more guns than you might expect - but gun deaths are so rare that in the entire year of 2018,the German police fired fewer rounds than the US police shoots on a single day in America. Sure, German population is only 1/5 of the US - but even then you shoot 70 times more often than in Germany. Why? Because we have safety nets. Unemployed doesn't mean food stamps here. Unemployed doesn't mean shitty healthcare here. Education is almost free so people can get out of holes.

So yeah. Not a gun fan, but banning won't do anything plus realistically it would cause a civil war in the US with perhaps hundreds of thousands of deaths. So think about what you propose.

Good comments but consider this.

Laws never work and maybe that is because those who want to promote widespread use of guns, the gun lobbyists manage to control the passing of effective gun laws, perhaps through bribery so that they are ineffective. Look at the latest bump stock law for which some law enforcment has declared they would not enforce that law. If there was effective punishment for those sheriffs involved then maybe the law(s) would work. For example, should a sheriffs discover someone using a bump stock who was not apprehended and punished ultimately use that weapon to kill a bunch of people then that sheriff should be charged will failure to enforce the law and possible facilitation of the murders. That would be enough to get enforcement in line.

Also I have no issue with gun ownership if laws regarding the storage and use of the
weapon is enforced. Look up 2 yr old child shoots/kills mother in Walmart to see the result of careless gun possession.

I don't believe America should simply ban guns but as a start they could lay down the law on people who have not regard for safety when it comes to their gun(s).

Killings in Europe and England? Yes angry, crazy people will always find a way to let off their steam/passion by killing someone. That is no excuse for America to allow free reign when it comes to gun ownership.

I have a cousin who owns a hand gun. His restrictions cover locking the gun away at home and allowing him to only transport it to and from the range where he practices shooting it. If he chooses to carry it to say a rock concert he runs the risk of losing the gun and permit to have it. There may even be some risk to his accreditation as a chartered accountant if he is charged and found guilty of illegal possession and/or usage.

Personnally I believe the US has the mess they have because they want the plebs shooting each other. There is no other reason for allowing police to shoot people who present no risk to them, without being charged.

Mr. Huntley,

What is a pleb and who might "they" be?

Bob Huntley said...

Pleb is short for Plebeians, the name for the common people of ancient Rome as opposed to the Patricians, the wealthy higher born people and therefore the "nobility" as it were at the time.

It is often used to describe the masses as a group versus the privileged.

For America it is very clear that the wealthy, as a group, have little concern for the masses, the underpriveledged of the country and accordingly, as they have control of government, for the most part money and caring flows upwards not downwards.
