Like him or not, the economy is doing surprisingly fine under Trump. And Obama's record is one of statesmanlike compromise where the American people usually lost out, unfortunately. In his quest to stay in good graces with his Harvard elite friends Obama sold out the progressives who put him in office again and again to prosecute his drone war. One day he'll realize that trying to please everyone at once was what damned him. I don't think his intentions during his term were malign, but he needs to realize that his choices and actions were what turned a huge chunk of the Democratic base towards Trump (and anger at the system in general) in 2016. It wasn't a spontaneous bout of insanity like he tells himself.
Then he can't be very happy with the current crop of Dems either. Lots of old white guys leading the herd. So much for "diversity".
/And Biden has a burbling Ukraine problem about that's to blow up.
Who's going to call Biden out on it though? His competitor has fallen into that trap himself with shipments of lethal aid.
It is not unusual for two term American Presidents to hand off power to someone from the competing party. It is the norm in fact. It is not a personal insult by the voters. People look ahead, not back.
It is unusual for the same party to transition from a 2 term President to holding office for a third term under someone new from the same party. It's only happened twice in the past hundred years (Harding/Coolidge to Hoover, and Reagan to Bush), and that successor always lost a bid for a fourth consecutive term of the same party.
