Edward-Isaac Dovere, a staff writer at the Atlantic, writes in his forthcoming book, 'Battle for the Soul: Inside the Democrats' Campaigns to Defeat Trump,' Obama called Trump a 'madman,' a 'racist, sexist pig,' 'that f***ing lunatic' and a 'corrupt motherf***er.'
Obama's reactions were varied depending on what Trump had done.
WNU Editor: A far more interesting book would have been on how former President Obama and his allies acted in the 2016 Presidential election campaign. Spying on Trump's campaign team. Pushing the Russian collusion narrative before and after the inauguration. Allies leaking information and intel on the Trump administration. Disinformation. Etc..

Former President Barack Obama on Saturday criticized President Donald Trump in all but name as he gave a televised commencement address for high school seniors.
Obama's message to graduating high school students came at the end of an hourlong television special.
Obama panned 'so-called grown-ups, including some with fancy titles and important jobs' who do 'what feels good, what's convenient, what's easy.'
'That's how little kids think,' he added, 'which is why things are so screwed up.'
WNU Editor: I expect President Obama will be making weekly attacks (if not more) against President Trump from now until the election. My political read is that Democrat leaders are worried that President Trump has made inroads in the African community for their support, and they are hoping that former President Obama will stop it.

In the same chat, a tape of which was obtained by Yahoo News, Obama also lashed out at the Trump administration’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic as “an absolute chaotic disaster.”
“The news over the last 24 hours I think has been somewhat downplayed — about the Justice Department dropping charges against Michael Flynn,” Obama said in a web talk with members of the Obama Alumni Association.

His administration was listening in (and reporting to President Obama) details of conversations involving President Trump's top national security adviser. The next question that then needs to be answered by the former President is this one. When did he know that President Trump's top national security adviser's conversations were being monitored, and why did he not stop it? The implications of President Obama using the intelligence agencies/Justice Department to spy on his opponent are huge, and I am sure the former President is aware of that.
So here is some of my speculation/analysis, and you tell me where I may be wrong (or right).
On Friday a conference phone call is quickly arranged between former President Obama and some of his closest allies to respond to Thursday's House Intel document dump implicating the former President on Michael Flynn's wiretaps. The next day former President Obama's remarks are leaked, starting with the 'rule of law is at risk' in the Michael Flynn case. That leak made me raise my eyebrows. President Obama ran an administration on a very tight leash, and there were rarely any leaks. That is why I know this leak was deliberate, and this is the reason why. What former President Obama is doing right now is a deflection. With his accusation that President Trump's response to the pandemic is chaotic to the Michael Flynn ruling puts the "rule at law at risk" .... what he wants right now is to change the narrative away from what was revealed on Thursday. And what is the narrative that he is trying to change? The monitoring of President Trump's top intelligence adviser and his communications, and the role that the former President played in it. I could be wrong .... and I hope that I am. But my gut is telling me that we are going to learn more in the coming days/weeks/and months. That besides monitoring Trump officials like Carter Page during the campaign, the Obama administration were also monitoring other members of the Trump team. That this monitoring intensified after he had won the nomination, and increased even more so after he had won the election. Michael Flynn may just be the tip of a very big iceberg, and I think that is what President Trump has been alluding to in the past few weeks. So what is next? Former President Obama was startled with what he saw on Thursday, and he has now gone public in his attacks against President Trump. I am even willing to bet that we are going to see more of the former President than former Vice President Biden and presumed Democrat Presidential nominee in the coming weeks. Will the former President be successful? I am not sure. I am someone who never underestimated the former President. As a politician he is one of the best, and one of the most ruthless. These leaks tell me that he has made a decision to not stay on the sidelines, and that he is now going to do everything in his power to make sure that President Trump is defeated in November, and that any inquiry in his role on the spying of Trump administration officials is all buried in a Biden administration.

The Trump administration’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic has been an ‘absolute chaotic disaster,’ former President Barack Obama said on Friday.
President Trump’s predecessor blamed the current occupant of the Oval Office and his allies for exacerbating ‘tribal’ tensions around the country, which he says has hampered the effort to reduce total number of cases nationwide.

‘What we’re fighting against is these long-term trends in which being selfish, being tribal, being divided, and seeing others as an enemy - that has become a stronger impulse in American life,’ the president said.
WNU Editor: In the Western world ruling governments and opposition parties have joined together under difficult circumstances to combat a pandemic that is causing incredible harm to the world. I find it inspiring that there is a global recognition that this is a unique event, and that people need to work together to fight this pandemic. I see it in the country I live in (Canada), and I see it in the U.S. between the federal government and the states. There are of course some disputes (in both Canada and the U.S.), but I noticed that these differences were always temporary. As I said, there is a general understanding that people need to work together to handle what is an extraordinary emergency. It is unfortunate that former President Obama has decided to pursue a course of action that is political and deeply divisive. I am not surprised that the mainstream media and progressives are applauding him for his remarks, but for everyone else, this is definitely not a time for partisan politics.

Barack Obama called Donald Trump a "fascist" in a phone conversation with Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia during the 2016 presidential election, Kaine says in a video clip featured in an upcoming documentary about Hillary Clinton.
Kaine, Clinton's running mate on the Democratic ticket, recounts the call during an exchange with Clinton that was caught on camera in 2016. Kaine's wife, Anne Holton, was also present.
"President Obama called me last night and said: 'Tim, remember, this is no time to be a purist. You've got to keep a fascist out of the White House,'" Kaine says before adding with a laugh that Obama "knows me and he knows that I could tend to err."
Clinton replies, nodding, "I echo that sentiment."
She then puts her hands to her chest and says, "But that's really — the weight of our responsibility is so huge."
WNU Editor: Coming from someone whose Justice Department was conducting a surveillance operation against the Trump campaign during the 2016 Presidential race, that is quite a statement. But on the bright side, at least he did not call Trump a Nazi (at least publicly).

And he insisted fixing issues around climate change, education, agriculture and so on are not nearly as complicated as they are made out to be.
Without mentioning Trump by name, Obama said 'the reason we don't do it is because we are still confused, blind, shrouded with hate, anger, racism, mommy issues.'

so on are not nearly as complicated as they are made out to be .... then what stopped former President Obama from doing it when he was in the White House for eight years, and when he had super majorities in Congress for the first two years? As for throwing insults at President Trump, it is not the first time that former President Obama has done this, and it will not be the last. And it is a given that President Trump will respond soon enough (and condemned for doing it).

Addressing a crowd of roughly 40,000, who were expecting the usual talk about citizenship and service, the president uncorked a political diatribe packed with jabs at Obama, Hillary Clinton, and the Washington, D.C., “cesspool”; reminders about the importance of saying “Merry Christmas”; and reminiscences of Election Night 2016 and the pundits he embarrassed. “You remember that incredible night with the maps, and the Republicans are red and the Democrats are blue, and that map was so red it was unbelievable. And they didn’t know what to say,” Trump told the Scouts. They seemed bewildered at first but before long broke into chants of “USA!” Adult observers were openly horrified. Three days later, the Boy Scouts’ leader would apologize for Trump’s speech.
WNU editor: It is obvious to me on what the former President is doing right now .... he is making money and finding ways to make more .... and there is nothing wrong with that. As for Gabriel Debenedetti saying in the post above that former President Obama has refrained from criticizing President Trump .... I am not sure about that .... I saw the former President give a speech in Montreal last June, and his remarks were very critical of the current President. But I think former President Obama is realizing what all former Presidents have realized in the past .... when you are out of office you no longer have the bully pulpit .... and you cannot compete with the current President when it comes to the media. There is also the added problem that if does start making public appearances where questions can be directed at him .... he may have to answer some questions that he does not want to answer. For example .... when did he know that his Justice Department was targeting the Trump campaign for Russian collusion, and what did he do after that. These are issues that I am sure he wants to stay away from .... especially since the Mueller Counsel is still investigating this entire affair, and he does not want to position himself where he may be then called upon by the Mueller Counsel to answer some questions. Hmmmm .... yeah. Better stay low key right now, and focus on making money.
President Barack Obama was veritably shell-shocked in the wake of Donald Trump's election victory in 2016, and even asked aides “What if we were wrong?” as he struggled to come to terms with Hillary Clinton's defeat, former adviser Ben Rhodes writes in a new memoir coming out in June.
The book, titled "The World As It Is," highlights efforts by Obama's brain trust to reassure him that he would have won re-election if he were allowed to run for a third term.
But Obama remained alternately optimistic and dejected, according to Rhodes, who has been feted as an aspiring novelist-turned national security wunderkind.
“Sometimes I wonder whether I was 10 or 20 years too early,” Obama told aides, according to the memoir. “Maybe we pushed too far. ... Maybe people just want to fall back into their tribe.”

This HBO footage of Ben Rhodes on election night is as bad as people said it was (Washington Examiner). As for President Obama admitting that he was wrong and expressing self-doubt .... that does not strike me as part of his character.
