Daily Mail: Trump Admin Moves Fueled Iran’s Aggression, U.S. Intel Says
“Most of the activities that the Iranians are undertaking are in response to our very aggressive posture in the region,” one member of the House Intelligence Committee said.
Trump administration hawks have spent the last two weeks decrying an increased threat from Iran. But U.S. intelligence officials assess that Iran’s aggressive moves came in response to the administration’s own actions.
Three U.S. government officials familiar with the situation told The Daily Beast that officials in multiple U.S. intelligence agencies have assessed that Iran’s new, threatening activity–which the administration points to in justifying its military presence in the Persian Gulf–is in response to the administration’s aggressive steps over the last two months. The National Security Council, the CIA, and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence did not provide comment for this story.

WNU Editor: Imposing new and comprehensive sanctions on Iran last year and designating the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist group a few months ago was always going to guarantee a severe response from Tehran. And in turn the priority of the White House and its allies in the Middle East was to watch-out and prepare for that response, which they have. So why is everyone surprised? The fact is that no one is surprised. Iran is getting squeezed by sanctions, something that the leadership of Iran have openly confirmed on multiple occasions, and are responding because the people that they rule are getting restless. We are at that fork in the road, and the ball is in Iran's court. The question that now remains is .... what will they do next?

Wnu, as you hinted the next step will be Iran's and they seem to favour a proxy war (ideally a conflict theater they can influence, and that distracts and drags the US into a quagmire somewhere in the middle east).. and, I'm also thinking that they will get the backing of someone, at least financially, anything to make this a fiasco for the US and get rid of Trump/avoid a second term of this guy, anyone from Russia, to Iran, North Korea and China, has learned to hate and fear.. the problem is when you have so many enemies and confront them all head on, it more often than not backfires. How far Putin would go is anyone's guess, I'd assume he's the joker card in all of this and plays Xi and Kim to increase his own standing (because in the end, he will not benefit from a China-ruled world, his empty, vast countryside makes a perfect target for a hungry 1.6bn China, while their (russia's) own population shrinks below 100million..
