A Chinese Invasion Of Taiwan Will Not Be An Easy Task

CNN: A Chinese invasion of Taiwan would be a bloody, logistical nightmare

Taiwan (CNN)Roaring out of the sky, an F-16V fighter jet lands smoothly to rearm and refuel on an unremarkable freeway in rural Taiwan, surrounded by rice paddies.

In different circumstances, this could be alarming sight. Taiwan's fighter pilots are trained to land on freeways between sorties in case all of the island's airports have been occupied or destroyed by an invasion.

Luckily, this was a training exercise.

There's only really one enemy that Taiwan's armed forces are preparing to resist -- China's People's Liberation Army (PLA). And as China's reputation as an economic and military superpower has grown in recent years, so too has that threat of invasion, according to security experts.

WNU Editor: Taiwan's defenses are formidable. They have their arsenal of anti-ship missiles to sink the Chinese Navy .... Taiwan to Mass Produce Upgraded Hsiung Feng II Anti-Ship Missiles (Defense World), and its air defense will take care of the air force .... Taiwan speeds up development of air defenses (Asia Times). There is also Patriot batteries in Taiwan. What I see is a massive Chinese missile attack, followed by the air force, a blockade of Taiwan by its Navy, and a prepping for an invasion. This is not a war that will be decided overnight. It will be a war that will last some time.

Nuclear weapons in the hands of the Taiwan govt would go along way to chill Beijing’s thirst for absorbing Taiwan. China secretly helped North Korea, Pakistan and Iran with their nuclear weapons program. Why shouldn’t the USA help Taiwan in secret?

Taiwan is heavily dependent on oil imports and they only have two ports for this. Strike these ports and they can't do anything within 2 weeks

China has a massive, massive fleet of cruisers.
They could potentially just bombard Taiwan until it surrenders and there is nothing anyone could do about it. Of course China would use the situation to test all and every piece of military equipment it has and would push the most successful into mass production while the rest of the world negotiated on the possibility of sinking the Chinese fleet. There is a very real possibility that Taiwan could inflict heavy losses on Chinese forces but it would just serve as data. It would be arrogant to think that the F16's would not just be shot down by naval guns.

Amateur analysis's at work above, I see.

Taiwan can't win a war against China. That's a fact.

Taiwan can make an invasion by China to be cost prohibitive. That is their deterrent policy. Dig in deep enough to dissuade Chinese aggression.

In the event of war; their policy turns to holding out while banking on third-party international support.

Longer they hold out, the greater the chance of international intervention in a bloody costly invasion.

Is international intervention likely? Depends on how bloody the invasion is. A massive bombing campaign would certainly apply pressure on those watching from the sidelines. Under a Trump administration, it is quite possible US intervention will play a big role, be it limited or not.

China has a narrow golden window of opportunity for invasion. That window has yet to come. They may be forced, depending on Taiwan's actions (or third party), to engage in a policy of direct force against Taiwan, outside that window. If so, it will cost them dearly.

The narrow window in question is the ability to commit to a short-lived invasion while holding off international pressure. Achieve their goal, the international community is less likely to help a post-surrender Taiwan. A Taiwan under siege with mounting casualties in a drawn-out invasion is much more likely to garner outside intervention to its side.

The problem with the news story posted here, is that is by CNN. CNN is a discredited propaganda outlet of left wing/Socialist/Communist forces. CNN will one day be shut down for treason and sedition, and the major players in CNN executed. This news story can not be relied upon to provide accurate information.

Your ranting mirrors similar protestations you would hear from "left wing/Socialist/Communist forces" when they want to take undermine governments.
