USNI News: U.S. Destroyer Responding to Distress Calls in the Gulf of Oman Amidst Reports of Attacks
A U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyer is responding to two distress calls amidst reports two oil tankers have come under attack in the Gulf of Oman.
USS Bainbridge (DDG-96) is providing assistance to ships that had called U.S. 5th Fleet for help, spokesperson Cmdr. Joshua Frey told USNI News on Thursday morning.
“We are aware of the reported attack on tankers in the Gulf of Oman. U.S. Naval Forces in the region received two separate distress calls at 6:12 a.m. local time and a second one at 7:00 a.m.,” Frey said in a Thursday statement to USNI News.
“U.S. Navy ships are in the area and are rendering assistance.”
