Iran has seized a foreign tanker with 12 crew smuggling fuel in the Gulf, state television quoted Iran's Revolutionary Guards as saying on Thursday.

The report says the tanker was smuggling fuel from Iranian smugglers to foreign customers and was intercepted south of Iran's Larak Island in the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

'A foreign vessel smuggling one million litres of fuel in the Lark Island of the Persian Gulf has been seized,' the station said, adding that the ship was seized on Sunday.

The Revolutionary Guards said the impounded vessel was the same one it towed after it sent a distress call.

Funny if they tried to pick a fight with Trump, he refuses, and they continue to neglect the economy, which then implodes and they are throw out on their asses.

Trump is in real estate and often real estate projects are constructed. The Mafia is heavily into construction and fraud.

Trump did not get into bed with the Mafia to say gun down rivals. It is not his way. It is not his business practice. He had opportunities no doubt.

So it is funny that the theocrats are trying to start a fight and he does not fight that way. The clerics must be frustrated.

The MT Riah is a very small ship. Granted it is a ship, but it is small. I would estimate a crew of 20 or less.

It would think that the tanker services Pakistan or India or maybe a a little further like SE Asia or Kenya.

The ship does not have much freeboard, scary looking thing.

I guess it depends on how you define winning. Iran is not the only nation that picks fights it can't win.

I can’t believe it, Iran has finally stopped pointed fingers at everyone else and finally confirmed our worst suspicions. Then again Israel may be using mind control to make this happen.

"The report says the tanker was smuggling fuel from Iranian smugglers to foreign customers and was intercepted south of Iran's Larak Island in the strategic Strait of Hormuz. "

This makes sense now. It is an Iranian smuggling ring. Either the government was smuggling or the underworld was smuggling. I would not want to take that ship across an ocean. It looks like a short haul.

My guess and this is just a guess is that they were going to smuggle oil from Iran to UAE and then make it legit.

It is kind of hard to hide a tanker, so my guess is that one part of the Iranian government does not know what the other part of the Iranian government is doing.

This is will cause more bad feeling and increased factionalism within the Iranian regime.

Closing down this smuggling will further cut off Revenue to the regime and the regime is doing it to itself

:)

>An Emirati official, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing security matter, said the vessel “did not emit a distress call.”

>The ship’s registered owner, Dubai-based Prime Tankers LLC, told the AP it had sold the ship to another company called Mouj Al-Bahar. A man who answered a telephone number registered to the firm told the AP it didn’t own any ships. The Emirati official said the ship was “neither UAE owned nor operated” and carried no Emirati personnel, without elaborating.

>this fits the profile of a smuggler. It looks like it just finished 3 months of grey market sales and went back to refill in Iran.

Very strange situation. If this ship was helping Iran smuggle oil then the only reason they'd have to sieze it would be to force that relationship into the spotlight to show that America's allies in the region aren't as black and white as they think.

North Korea invaded South Korea and got thrown out.

South Korea has Samsung. North Korea has famines.

The idiot also known as Bob Huntley chalks this up as a United States loss.

I would like to remind the the idiot/moron that it was a UN mission.

Bottom line is that Iran is losing more oil export money.

Smuggling is common during a war.

The Confederacy banned the export of all cotton in hopes of drawing the British into the War on the side of the Confederacy. People were starving, so they broke confederate law and smuggled.

Why the North Won the Civil War

Before the sanctions some lesser socially prominent members of UAE society had business ties with Iran not out of love but to put food n the table. Dubai is not a cheap place to live. the north of Dubai has a large Iranian presence.

So some UAE nationals or foreign workers smuggled. And?

Certainly the smugglers are going to see leaner times, but it is Nehemiah Scudder that will be hurt the most.

I like how the Nehmiah Scudder cheer leading squad tries to muddy the waters and draw an equivalency between Iran and UAE by saying all is shades of gray.

Some Iranians helping the regime are being thrown in jail. The theocrats are happy that they are bring in money, but unhappy that they did not grease the right palms or enough of them. So more Iranians are being set against each other. That can't help Mr. Scudder stay in power.

You might want to bring yourself up to date on the status of the war in Korea.

Bob Huntley said...

On the tanker, perhaps the Iranians just wanted to bring it to port and relative safety before someone else did.

The war is not officially ended, bBut the result is that South Koreans are safe and prosperous.

It burns your lazy butt that your average South Korean enjoys a better lifestyle than you.
