Joseph W. Sullivan, The Atlantic: Every American Should Hope Trump Prevails Against China
Working on economic policy at the White House, I came to understand that the stakes of the confrontation are far higher than those of trade alone.
I spent much of the past two years on the staff of the White House Council of Economic Advisers, thinking about U.S. trade policy toward China. Many people, including me, were focused on the economics of this issue. Many still are.
The blow-by-blow of the bout between the world’s two economic heavyweights is easy to follow. The world’s stock markets gyrate in response to the trade news of the day; the U.S. dollar falls versus the Chinese yuan, and the president responds. Each new piece of macroeconomic data is interrogated until it mumbles something about tariffs. Even the Federal Reserve has weighed in.

And we all know that Putin is hoping too. He cannot want 2bn Chinese next door looking at this vast empty, rich Russian space. The last thing Putin wants is to be #3. Number 2, ok perhaps, but number 3.. ouch.. under him. So yeah, he's rooting for USA not only for culturally and ethnical reasons, and religious reasons (don't forget, China is a no-Christians-wanted zone).. so we all know what's going on and China better realize they are -completely- and -utterly- surrounded.
Question is if they are dumb enough to not realize what Russians tried to do in the mid of the last century. Mother Russia may not be very well known to start wars, but they had something else in mind back then. Read history ;)
Spot on analysis, and yes, I think this is going to get a lot worse before it gets better. Also, why not just put China in Check and buy the Corn and Soy Beans!? We can hand them out to countries in need, or make more ethanol!
Great article!
