Canadians Go To The Polls On October 21 To Elect A New Government

National Post: Federal election to kick off on Wednesday morning, Canadians go to the polls on Oct. 21

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will visit Rideau Hall on Wednesday morning to launch the 2019 federal election.

OTTAWA — Let the races begin, in all 338 ridings from coast to coast to coast.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will visit Rideau Hall Wednesday morning to launch the 2019 federal election, with voting day set for Oct. 21.

Informally the campaign has been well underway for months, as the party leaders have been criss-crossing the country to get their messages out and attack their opponents. But Wednesday will mark the formal start of the writ period as Trudeau visits Governor General Julie Payette to start the process to dissolve Parliament.

The Liberals emerged from the 2015 campaign with 184 seats and 39.5 per cent of the popular vote, giving them a sizeable majority over the Conservatives, who finished with 99 seats and 31.9 per cent of the vote. But this will be a much different election for the Liberals, as they’ll now be defending their own record in government and searching for ways to recapture the energy that vaulted Trudeau to a majority.

WNU Editor: Polls show Prime Minister Trudeau with a slight edge to win a majority government right now. But for the past two years in every provincial election in Canada, polls were always underestimating Conservative support. I am expecting the same to happen in this election. As to who do I think will come ahead when the final votes are tallied next month. My money is on a Conservative minority government, but this could quickly change in the coming weeks.

More senseless rambling. I am 74 and you would deny me a little bit of pleasure. I have worked hard in my life and can afford some pleasures one of which is visiting the casino. The last time I went to Seneca in Buffalo I hadn't been there for over a year. When I put my players card into a slot machine a message came up "Welcome back Bob we've missed you. Here is $100 to get you started". It is nice to be appreciated.

What kinds of things are on your bucket list little fella?
