Poll: U.S. Veterans, Public Say The Wars In Iraq And Afghanistan Were Not Worth Fighting

PEW Research: Majorities of U.S. veterans, public say the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were not worth fighting

Nearly 18 years since the start of the war in Afghanistan and 16 years since the U.S. invasion of Iraq, majorities of U.S. military veterans say those wars were not worth fighting, according to a new Pew Research Center survey of veterans. A parallel survey of American adults finds that the public shares those sentiments.

Among veterans, 64% say the war in Iraq was not worth fighting considering the costs versus the benefits to the United States, while 33% say it was. The general public’s views are nearly identical: 62% of Americans overall say the Iraq War wasn’t worth it and 32% say it was. Similarly, majorities of both veterans (58%) and the public (59%) say the war in Afghanistan was not worth fighting. About four-in-ten or fewer say it was worth fighting.

1) With Afghanistan there was going to be blowback, if we attacked or did not attack

a) If we did not it would have been open season on Americans.
b) If we attacked knocked out the Taliban and left in a year, there would have been blowback.

The Pakistanis are fronting the Taliban and are the center of gravity. In the theory of warfare, you must always figure out what is the center of gravity and attack it. Attack it we did not. Until the US is honest about these situations (Republicans and Democrats) we do not need to be fighting any wars.

2) Iraq was a danger unlike Libya. The WMDs were sent to Syria. After 2014 WMDs were sent from Syria to Iraq. Iraq had promise. It was more promising under Bush than Obama. Bsh talked to the Iraqi PM everyday. After Bush was gone and Obama immaculated, the Iraqi PM went sectarian. The rest is history.

3) Syria is or was worthwhile if we set up a Kurdish state, federated Syria or the conditions for a Kurdish state. Barring that the Kurds always were going to get fucked in the ass. Get real, they have no money to give Hunter Biden.

A has been shown, Iraq was a counter balance to the Iranian moo-lahs.
We get into the situations with one eye closed. Vietnam was another example where the little guy on the scene warned of the nature of the then existing government of S. Vietnam and the populations' relation with it. The 4 stars said can do sir and off we went.
Our positive thinking has been too often a detriment to rational decisions.
