U.S. Dropped 7,423 Munitions Against The Taliban In 2019

Military Times: The US is bombing the hell out of the Taliban as munitions dropped reaches nearly 10-year high

In the backdrop of peace negotiations to end the 18-year long war U.S. aircraft are bombing the hell out of the Taliban and other militants as the warring parties slog through never-ending discussions to bring the fighting to a close.

According to U.S. Air Forces Central Command, U.S. aircraft dropped 7,423 munitions in 2019 — that’s the highest number of bombs released in nearly a decade.

In 2018, U.S. warplanes dropped 7,362 bombs — the second highest total in a year thus far since AFCENT began publishing the number of munitions released in Afghanistan.

Update: US records highest airstrike rate in Afghanistan for a decade (Janes).

WNU Editor: Everyone knows that the US has intensified its bombing campaign against the Taliban to get them to the negotiating table. But you have to wonder if dropping 7,423 munitions in 2019 will make a difference.

I recall during the Vietnam years seeing a pilot being interviewed. He was complaining that at one point, all they did was to bomb and re-bomb, time after time, the same targets that had been totally destroyed.

"...to bomb and re-bomb, time after time, the same targets that had been totally destroyed."

Count on Bob to find the most negative angle dredged up from who knows where.

This is really no different than WW2. Ploesti, Romania infrastructure was bombed 12 times.

In the Korean War they bombed the same rail lines. The North Koreans were repairing it as fast as the USAF was bombing it.

Some Bridges in North Vietnam were hard to hit and took several tries to be put out of commission. I believed that 1 bridge they took out with a new system withe the walleye system. It improved accuracy greatly.

Then there was the Democrat mandated exclusion zones in North Vietnam that had strategic targets that the Democrats did not want hit. These zones made took better or the best target of the list and enabled North Vietnam to remain on a war footing instead of being knocked out.

Now I'm sure you will have something smartass to say.

I find your comment impossible to believe. No military is silly enough to deliberately bomb again a totally destroyed target. Repaired or undergoing repair, yes.
Perhaps the pilot had a grudge to begin with. Or they couldn't land with a bomb load and dropped them for various reasons. Unexpected weather. The real thing is not always portrayed accurately in Hollywood.

I'd like to see that interview.

Russ

It was not something I searched for but something I saw on TV during the Vietnam period. It was an interview back in the days of the war with a guy claiming he was a US pilot and telling that story. You can believe it or not.

As for the US deliberately wasting ordinance you only have to go back to Trump's massive 2017 Shayrat missile strike.

Perhaps I missed the story of "deliberately wasting ordinance". Having used your link, Bob, I saw nothing about "wasted ordinance". I saw and read many articles about the strike. The Russians claimed it was an ineffective strike. No bias there, eh? I would go with the Israeli report.
Destroyed and damaged jet aircraft of the Syrian airforce and destroyed and damaged infrastructure on the base certainly weren't taken lightly by Assad and others.

Bob cannot count as high as 15. So when it says 15 aircraft were damaged or destroyed he has no inkling as to the magnitude.

It is also funny that Bob bait and switched from Vietnam to Syria. Either way the dud did not prove anything other than her own mendacity and stupidity.
