CDC Director Warns That A Second Covid-19 Coronavirus Wave Could Be More Deadlier Later This Year

Washington Post: CDC director warns second wave of coronavirus is likely to be even more devastating

Even as states move ahead with plans to reopen their economies, the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warned Tuesday that a second wave of the novel coronavirus will be far more dire because it is likely to coincide with the start of flu season.

“There’s a possibility that the assault of the virus on our nation next winter will actually be even more difficult than the one we just went through,” CDC Director Robert Redfield said in an interview with The Washington Post. “And when I’ve said this to others, they kind of put their head back, they don’t understand what I mean.”

“We’re going to have the flu epidemic and the coronavirus epidemic at the same time,” he said.

Yes of course. A far deadlier second wave just in time for the election. What a coinkydink.

Redfield is an asshole or he is applying the PRECAUTIONARY PRINCIPLE to the DETRIMENT of ALL ELSE without doing a cost benefit analysis. Forget the money. You can still do a cost benefit analysis based of lives lost with course of action (COA) #1 and lives lost with COA #2.

Opening up the economy is above Redfield paygrade. He is speaking out of turn. I think Redfield is smart enough to do a cost benefit analysis and especially so if he has had statistics. However, he was not even roughly gamed that out in his head, which makes me believe he is is being pedantic, ignorant, or political. He should be retired to The Villages.

Drug addiction (with DOAs), suicides and other things are shooting up, but the good Dr. appropriately named Redfield does not seem to compute that.

ASSHOLE

Anon (1:23PM),

It's not that they are merely tone deaf to the other issues their policies are causing. They seem completely brain dead to them. I agree entirely. Retire him to the village along with Facui, Birx, and their respective teams.

While COVID-19 can cause real problems especially to people in certain age groups who have underlying health issues such as diabetes, heart, or lung issues, any pathogen can cause problems to anyone at anytime. COVID-19 is nothing "novel." The only novel thing about this has been the reactions of certain governments.

Russ,

While the timing of a new "pandemic" to coincide with the election is certainly possible and we do need to monitor these people closely, I don't think they will be allowed to act without supervision again much less take the radical step of shutting down whole segments of the economy again. After all their actions here severely damaged what had been the greatest economy in American history and all based upon what seem to be wildly flawed models. Outside of the media, academics, and maybe some government personnel I don't think many people trust them now.

This will especially become apparent as states open up their economies. Thus far a number of political elements are benefiting from both the economic shutdowns and the inflated death rates from this. Those inflated death rates cannot be covered up indefinitely and, at some point, they will be forced to own the damage their policies have caused.

Bottom line: its time for a better way forward. I'd suggest voluntary quarantines of those most vulnerable. For the most part, the rest can and should get back to life as it was and as is normal for humans. The faster this is done the faster herd immunity develops which is better for everyone. I estimate those most at risk would need to self quarantine for between two weeks to a month.

Yes, and we cpuld get hit by a meteor to. These guys are now in the CYA node, "we told you so" so if something does occur that is that bad they are safe. There's no perfect world. The dctors are calling the shots and destroying the country in the pocess.

All this is based on John Barry's "The Great Influenza" where the flu hit a a world and country at war, moving tend of thousands of troops all over the world spreading the virus. There were no vaccines, not even sure aspirins existed, half the country lived in tenements or farms. Pres. Wilson ignored the entire virus situation until he finally was struck by it in 1919 (well deserved).

If your old, in a nursing home situation, sick, etc stay the hell inside and wear a mask. Don't shut the world down because a 92 year old woman in Hospice dies of Covid-19. Isn't that what hospices are for? They are going to far.

Copley7,

It was invented around 1897.

There is a documentary on Netflix I think that goes over the patent dispute/inventorship.

Aspirin originally was derived from a folk medicine, but between 1850s and 1890s there was work to find a form that did not have side effects.
