FOX News/AP: China tries reviving economy after coronavirus lockdown but consumer engine sputters

Millions of workers are wary of spending much or even going out.

BEIJING (AP) — China, where the coronavirus pandemic started in December, is cautiously trying to get back to business, but it's not easy when many millions of workers are wary of spending much or even going out.

Factories and shops nationwide shut down starting in late January. Millions of families were told to stay home under unprecedented controls that have been copied by the United States, Europe and India.

The ruling Communist Party says the outbreak, which had killed more than 3,340 people among more than 82,341 confirmed cases as of Thursday, is under control. But the damage to Chinese lives and the economy is lingering.

WNU Editor: All my friends and contacts in China are telling me the same thing. Nothing is moving in the economy, and they do not see any improvement in the future. They are also not interested in starting new projects and/or investments. Their mindset is to "circle the wagons" for this year, and hope that the situation improves next year. According to other reports, European countries are also facing the same problems in restarting the economy .... 'We are in Crisis Mode': China, Europe Show Restarting Coronavirus-hit Economies Not Easy (AP). I expect the same economic reports will be coming from Canada and the U.S. in the next month or two. People are justifiably afraid, and when people are afraid they hunker down.

That’s because the media reports nothing but doom and gloom. Yes, be wary and be safe but we do not need to be irrational. So far, it appears the models were wrong and the true death rate is closer to the flu at .1%. They also suspect many more have been exposed and are UN-symptomatic. So go out and mingle to get those antibodies working - said this throughout.

I agree with Mike except for this caveat. Hide the old, weak and sick as normal.

Use hydroxychloroquine. Do not go on a ventilator; lie on you stomach. If lying on your stomach is too hard because you have a tire, then perhaps you might consider any respiratory distress whatsoever might take you out.

"Use hydroxychloroquine." I agree. Given the hysterical over the top media push against it, it must be effective. This is in contrast to POTUS who touted a single case quoting a patient and a physician who have been and can be easily cross examined to suggest this might have promise. The media's over the top war against this reminds me of the Shakespeare quote "thou doest protest much."

First we had to completely eradicate the virus before we could reopen the economy. Now that the business interests are pushing back the strategy has shifted. Now we need a testing regime that is going to be to cumbersome and expensive to set up in a reasonable time before we can open the economy.

Recently an opinion piece suggested Trump wanted to reopen the economy to soon in an unsafe manner in order to gain a political advantage from a stronger economy. The reaction of other pundits seems to be in line with this reasoning. In doing so, they "tipped their hand." They do not want a sound economy as Trunp might benefit!! God forbid that should happen!! In accusing Trump of putting politics ahead of the safety and prosperity of the American the media and their Democrat accomplices are engaging in projection. To them it's all about "politics."
