ABC News Online: World Health Organisation announces plan to appeal for more than $1.5 billion from international governments
The World Health Organisation is preparing to launch an appeal for more than $US1 billion [$1.5 billion] to fund operations against the coronavirus pandemic.
Now 100 days since the WHO was alerted to the first case of COVID-19, and after more than $US800 million [$1.2 billion] having already been pledged or received, the organisation says it will release a revised strategy plan and new funding appeal.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus believes the pandemic is much more than a health crisis, requiring a whole-of government & society response.
"For the past 100 days, our unwavering commitment has been to serve all people of the world with equity, objectivity and neutrality. That will continue to be our sole focus in the days, weeks and months ahead," Dr Tedros said.
The appeal and strategy plan will commence in coming days.

Yes one does have to wonder if this organization really deserves it. They did a lousy job before wo now they can do an even worse job with even more money.
So he "hits back" at president Trump. Unfortunately world leaders may learn very little from this. They will just do the reflex blame Trump for all that ails them even though Trump's power is very, very limited compared to them.
Essentially the regime of tax cuts and regulatory reforms pushed by president Trump was paramount in enabling the United States to achieve the best economy we have had in living memory. Then along came the mafiosa style goons of CDC, Dr. Fauci, Dr. Birx and the Surgeon General took it all away.
Now they are shrieking that Trump wants to restart the economy to soon to boost his reelection chances. Such shrieking is a window into their soul. Everything to them is about politics. God forbid we should get our economy back because that might somehow help president Trump!! The people must continue suffering under a cure that is far worse than the disease because God forbid Donald Trump might benefit if something changes!! So it appears to this observer.
Surgeon General Jerome Adams says most of the country will not be able to reopen by 5/1 as some in the Trump Administration have suggested. It's time to tell the Surgeon General to SIT DOWN AND SHUT UP!! The jailers have been running things long enough. Allowing this bunch to set national policy is a bit like allowing Greenpeace to set energy policy without any consultation with anyone.
Its not that this bunch can't contribute anything. They've just been unreasonable and brain dead to listening to anyone who might have differing ideas. I'd say they can come back to the table when they are able to work constructively with other interests to find ways forward. Until then people like him, Dr. Fauci, Dr. Birx, and the CDC optimally should be completely shut out of the situation. I'm pretty sure we can find medical experts outside of the government who can work with the varied economic interests on constructive steps forward.
Bottom line: concrete steps need to be made toward reopening the economy by 5/1. We have no choice. If we do not the health issues that will arise from this over the next five years easily result in more than the 2.2 million maximum possible deaths that it was predicted that COVID-19 could claim. Btw, the 2.2 million is a large number designed to shock the human brain and is unlikely based upon any realistic number. Such claims would require extraordinary proof of which none has been provided.
