U.S. intelligence agencies have concluded that the new coronavirus was 'not manmade or genetically modified' but say they are still examining whether the origins of the pandemic trace to contact with infected animals or an accident at a Chinese lab.
The statement from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the clearinghouse for the web of U.S. spy agencies, comes as President Donald Trump and his allies have touted the as-yet-unproven theory that an infectious disease lab in Wuhan, the epicenter of the Chinese outbreak, was the source of the global pandemic that has killed more than 220,000 worldwide.
The statement was made shortly after claims surfaced in the New York Times that intelligence analysts were concerned that intelligence could be distorted to fit a pre-determined conclusion.

The U.S. intel community does not know. They made their determination solely based on what is the scientific consensus on the origins of this disease. But in the past few months I have lost count on the changing narrative of this disease. Starting with the narrative that it was not capable of transmitting from human to human, to the current narrative that it came naturally from a "wet market". As of this writing the US intel community has not given their sources of information that helped them make this assessment. I say that this reluctance to be transparent is unfortunate. Especially in view of the fact that China has not permitted any outside observers and specialists to enter China to examine the origins of this disease.

Nailed it!! I learned over 30 years ago that these people should not be trusted as a primary source. Perhaps they can be useful as a secondary or third source to corroborate the conclusions of a more reliable primary source.

Only believe intel when what they tell you agrees with what you want to believe
Would you like the nation to do away with intel? And then you can tell us what is going on
"Only believe intel what they tell agrees with what you want to believe..." Examples of this would be Iraq WND even though there were warning signs this may not be the case and the attacks of 911. Leadership did not want to believe this was a threat. There's also multiple examples I'm aware of where our military personnel have died or been placed in extreme peril due to faulty intel.
Due to both what is available in the public record and my own experiences it is my very consid opinion that these people are not trustworthy in terms of either their competence or integrity. As such, if I were in a position to decide US policy, I would not rely on US Intel as a primary source. They may be useful as a secondary or a third source that can be utilized to confirm a more reliable primary service.
There are a number of good, competent, and honest Patriots in US Intel. Based upon my studies when about 3% of the members of an organization are incompetent or otherwise unscrupulous the entire organization is ineffective. US (un)intelligence has an incompetence level of much higher than 3% and it's even worse among the leadership.
Possible solutions: post 911 I suggested a complete dismantling of the entire thing. After this was done we could have turned to allies like Israel, The UK, France, and Germany among others to help us with intelligence gathering and analysis as well as to help us construct competent intelligence services.
This probably wouldn't work as well today. In the hopes of short term political gain, Democrats torched many of these alliances. The best bet would be to purge the leadership and replace them. A fish rots from the head. Hopefully the reverse is true. Before Trump lost his mind over COVID-19. As such, the best we can probably do is to try and reign in their influence. Appoint officials whi will challenge them. Keep them on their toes.
